So, I asked about the repair process and cost, the first answer was that they could repair the transmission, that the part would be less than 50.00, ATF would be 150.00, the labor would be 1,600.00 - total about 2k, but that they would not give any guarantees because it may have more damage than what they think the issue is.

Mine didn't have a leak. Given all the codes and fluid being so called "burnt" (82k miles and still original), should I ask them to drain and refill or should I ask them to drop the pan and replace filter and SR Solenoid (code p0985 points to this).
Upon reading Lexus service manual, it points to test ECU first followed by resistance in the solenoid and finally pin/harness. Never a word on replacing the transmission lol.

They're likely inferring bad transmission from bad solenoids. I can follow their logic; if the solenoids are bad, then shift pressures will be off. Long-term running in that state could theoretically lead to burnt-out clutch packs and fluid. That's one of the reasons that transmissions go in to limp mode, it's a kind of self-preservation.
That said, from your description of when the problem occurred and for how long, seems a little far-fetched. I agree on fluid replacement, and some actual diagnostics on connectors, solenoids, and other components.

If anybody wants the repair manual just pm me. I'll send the copy I have.

Oh come on now, the AA80E is a really simple pure electronic control trans. Just check the solenoids, harness, and line pressures and that's really all there is. Not really any adjustable or non-electronic controls to have go wrong on one of these....if the solenoids don't fix it and you don't have an internal leak at an apply servo ETC then you ran out of frictions and it would be cheaper to just swap the trans

Here is my follow-up.
The Transmission shop saw a leak at the fill plug.
Replaced that crush washer, added 2 litres of ATF and test drove.
It is as good as new.

I have a 2001 GS that developed leaking transmission cooling lines and whenever I took a sharp turn, the exact same symptoms showed up. I'd top off the transmission and the symptoms would go away.

Final update. The warranty company paid for used transmission and labor. My total cost was $1300 for last one month. That includes some diagnostics they won't cover, rental for a month, towing to and fro.

Happy to hear it's resolved. As this trans is rarely a problem, the used trans should be reliable. The last long term rental I had was a BMW hard top convertible. Fun to drive in part because it was such a departure from a luxury sedan.

The other repair shop diagnostics was three solenoids and bulkhead harness that goes into transmission with a quote of $900 (parts)+$800 (labor) but the warranty company decided to replace the whole transmission. The labor for tranny replacement was $2400 and other $200 in parts (fluid, filter and gasket). Warrarnty company supplied the transmission. I can feel the glide in transmission, or I am getting used to not having regen while coasting, hahahaha
