License plate mounting
Weird question, I know, but what kind of hardware do other people have for mounting the rear license plate on the trunk? I feel like something is missing on mine (picture below). All I have are two threaded holes at the top, which have an outer pair of blank holes next to them. There also appear to be some indents intended for adhesive pads, but they're empty in my case.
I feel like just screwing the plate to the trunk with the current hardware would mar the paint or vibrate. Coming from German brands, many of those have a variety of mounting brackets that attach to the trunk or bumper. A single pair of holes is provided to attach the bracket, and different brackets are made to accommodate different countries' plate dimensions.
Is something indeed missing, or am I just way too OCD about this?

Those are the correct 6 mm machine thread holes for your plate. Be sure to take
the time to spray a nice lubricant on them as they tend to rust quickly. A couple
lengths of thick foam tape will help with noise particularly when closing the trunk.

I have had your concerns but never any problems using the mounting supplied. Some states have regulations as to covering any part of the plate such as a frame or transparent cover. Be sure to comply with you state's requirements.
