Default Chrome Coating Peeling Off

Can I do anything about chrome coating peeling off of the wheel? Washed my LS today and noticed it. It is by the lug nut.

Nothing you can do. Chrome simply does not adhere to aluminum.

I would try to break off that piece as close to where its still good. Clean that part of the wheel very good and let dry. Toothbrush works well. Remove any oxidation you can see.
Now don't laugh, but apply a dab of petroleum jelly to the exposed wheel part. Do this often as you wash the car and road dirt accumulates. This will cut down on future oxidation of the wheel. Its just prolonging the inevitable for awhile longer.
Go for a powder coat finish next time.

Maybe your spare tire will be a good swap.

I checked spare wheel and found it has powder finish and not chome coating . If it gets worse then I know I have an option. Hope the petroleum jelly trick works.
