I bet the aftermarket axles will suddenly become available.
I am replacing front axles on my AWD because two mechanics have told me the stuff inside the boot is splashed about. It still drives right but I want to get them out before they are destroyed. My reading on here tells me that the aftermarket axles are dubious. My mechanic thinks they're fine. I hope to refurb the OEM ones with neoprene boots and have them ready if the aftermarket ones are trouble.
I bought aftermarket ones on RockAuto. When I started shopping, they were super hard to find. I watched the last one in the world sell and figured I missed out. Later, all the brands had stock again! I wanted to have some on hand if an axle failed (because the ebb and flow of inventory would be a risk) so I chose these:

2011 LEXUS LS460 4.6L V8
TRAKMOTIVE TO8456 (TO-8456) CV Axle
TRAKMOTIVE TO8455 (TO-8455) CV Axle
TRAKMOTIVE TO8441 (TO-8441) CV Axle
TRAKMOTIVE TO8440 (TO-8440) CV Axle

If the mechanic can refurb the OEMs immediately then I might let him put them back on instead of these so I can return or sell the TrakMotives. Of course, if the wear has gone too far then that is out.

Clean and repack the existing axles with proper grease. Replace boots if necessary.

I am inclined to agree with your mechanic's opinion of aftermarket axles but I am looking forward to seeing how their work out for you. I hadn't seen the TrakMotive brand yet so thank you for sharing. I think I may go ahead and order a set while they're in stock because I also found them to be out of stock, some places permanently so, everywhere.

Hi, I'm jumping into the conversation. Do you trust Trakmotive parts? I’ve also seen CCL CV joints online, but I have no idea about their quality (they are so cheap that it sounds too good to be true). While I would avoid replacing a shock absorber with a Chinese copy, I'm curious about CV joints. What are your experiences?
