Default Air Suspension Required for Safety Package?

In looking at the Lexus build your car for the LS500 website, it seems you can't get the safety package without the air suspension. I tend to keep my cars past the extended warranty period and was planning on getting a LS500 without the air suspension just because I don't want an expensive repair for it once the car is out of warranty.

I live in the Chicago area where we go thru extreme temperature changes thru the year.

When I see cars in the $30,000 range that have the safety package features, it seems like a bad move by Lexus requiring the air suspension to get safety features

I have the same problem in my area - if we want the safety package we're forced to buy the air suspension, HUD, and more, adding another $4-5000 in cost. This is because all the dealers in our region voted to have it that way. Assuming the 'build your car' function is accurate, the only way around it is to find a dealer out of your region, and hope that those dealers configure their cars differently.
