:sigh: a LWB won't fit in my garage. 430 barely makes it and SWB 460 is only a hair longer, will be even tighter but will fit.

Are you sure? I didn’t think it would fit in mine either but it does.

Yep but your post made me go get a tape measurer and see haha. With my 430 just barely touching the HVAC (which is the furthest up I can go) I have roughly 4 inches left. LS430 is 197 inches, '13+ LS460 SWB is 200. LWB is 205. SWB is just barrrrrely gonna make it lol. LWB is out of the question, unfortunately.

-the 500 flat out kills the 460 in every way you can possibly think of.

1. its way way faster than the 460
2. its alot more sportier feeling than the 460
3. its has very VERY unique styling. nothing boring about this car at all, and there isnt anything else on the road that looks like it. maybe a little too far out for some, but i think its way cool and bravo for lexus and the LS to come out of its shell, and to really try something totally different.
4. current infotainment system. (will cover more of this later) its a 2018 car that works like a 2018 car! the 460 felt so 2007 it hurt. even the 2017 model. sure it was a beautiful car as well, but way way overdue for a change!!!!
5. its priced well. you can pick up a pretty well equipped one in the mid $70Ks.

Sorry to revive a 4 month old thread. I wanted to add my thoughts after driving a 2018 LS F-Sport AWD (loaner) for a week, but didn't want to start yet another LS500 review thread.

I absolutely agree with StereoRob that the car is way faster and much more sporty. It is an absolutely stunning car. Other things I love (compared to my 2015) are: brake pedal force is more normal, keyfob is a now an acceptable size, ML stereo is even better than before, the center console opens from either side and is no longer blocked if something is on the floor behind it.

The body is basically a piece of art, but it feels longer than it needs to be. I definitely have less room in the garage.

On the minus side: I miss the physical controls for the seat heating/cooling, the lack of a ski pass-thru on an AWD car is an egregious sin, rear seat roof line is a little low for 6 footers, I don't see the high-height setting anywhere, and the brakes still squeak. Other than that I noticed a couple of rattles and whatnot that are likely just due its being a brand new model.

Overall, I love driving this car; and I would absolutely buy one! The switch from V8 to TT V6 was the right call IMO. It improves the fuel economy, and better competes with similar offerings from Germany. I don't know what sales have been so far, but I predict this will resonate with younger (affluent) buyers.

No height high means the one you drove didn't have the air suspension is all.

How can I tell? It does have the Sport+ mode, which on the last gen only comes with the air suspension.

In the LS500 all cars have AVS, so they all have a Sport + mode whether they have air suspension or not. The air suspension car will hav a comfort mode as well as the height high button.

In the LS460, you had to have the air suspension to get AVS and get the Sport + mode

Unfortunately, lack of ski pass-thru is a deal breaker for me. I live in the mountains and having one car which I cannot use when I go skiing does not make any sense. I still cannot understand why... All competition have it as a standard or at least as an option.

I agree; it doesn't make sense. A couple plastic doors and rubber seals--how much could that cost? Hopefully they'll add that next year.

My time with the LS500 has come to an end. Due to a shipping problem with my replacement sunroof, I was lucky enough to drive the LS500 for nine days. After hopping back into my 2015, a couple things (besides the old throttle and brakes) hit me: the older seats are softer, and the newer seats cool 3X better. Was in the mid 90's today, and I definitely missed the LS500 seats when I got back into my own car.

Default Rattles?

Sounds like the manufacturing has slipped along with the product engineering. My 2009 has 179k miles and no rattles.
Back to the 1970s where you had to avoid the first year or two of American cars until they got their s*** together.
I know rattles probably can be repaired at the dealer but personally I don't like having things taken apart to fix problems that shouldn't be there in the first place. My worst experience with my 2009 was having to replace direct fuel injectors not too long after an engine recall repair. The fuel injector replacement cost $2,000. I suspect the recall repair was the cause of the subsequent fuel injector problem, but that's something that you can't prove.

Well, Derrick, maybe it's time for you to consider driving a LS 500 permanently and enjoying not only the better driver's seat, but also the amazing backseat on the passenger side!

I don't think I could afford it, nor would I survive my wife finding me spending money on another luxury car! Besides, I just bought the '15 a few months ago...

+1 on that. the backseat is insanley awesome. ofcourse, whoever is sitting on the hump in the middle will feel like a second class citizen, but the rear passenger seat is absolutely to die for. the touchscreen controls are way cool too!
