glenneagle that is a beautiful car. There is a white LS500 in our area that I've seen twice within the last two weeks, and it's a stunner.

I did some longer freeway trips (anywhere from about 200 to 500 miles) lately. During these trips, I utilized cruise control (in ECO drive) and the semi-auto driving features extensively. As a result, the mileage jumped dramatically from my normal 25 MPG to higher than 28 MPG. Guess the car is at its most efficient when everything is in auto mode. Just another reference point for those who are interested.

But sometime ago after learning from some Lexus and Audi technicians that these new engines should be redlined during breaking-in period because the plates in the cylinders need to travel the entire walls (which require redlining the engines after the engines are sufficiently warmed up, of course). This redlining practice, I was told, can actually improve the overall performance of the car's engine because there won't be rings in the middle of the cylinders' walls. How has anyone else treated his 5LS engine?
What? I am going to assume I misunderstand you since otherwise this makes no sense .The piston travel the same distance within the cylinder no matter how fast the crank turns.

Let me throw my hat in the line for one of the longest LA loyalists... my LS500 which I received in Feb (of which I was told by my dealer in Dallas as the first to receive as it unloaded off the truck :-) is my 7th in the series (yep, true!). First one was 1999-LS400, one more LS400 in 2002, two LS430s (2005 & 2008), after that, followed up by two LS460s (2011 and 2014), and now the 2018 LS500. My dealer in Dallas is so secure in my loyalty that they do not even go out of their way to woo me to remain so... knowing fully well I'll come back in 3 years :-)

I actually got a call from corporate Lexus guys in CA... thanking me for the loyalty and being one of the biggest (if not THE) brand loyalists. I have been participating in marketing studies for Lexus for a while now as well (where they do the Q&A sessions behind one-way mirrors...

Cheers,
KG

Appreciate your post. You said it as it is. I have the base model 5LS as well which I got in the first batch of LS500s rolling into the dealerships back in Feb '18. Does this forum know if the audio system can be upgraded in the base model? I don't think the base model gets the ML system and the stock audio system it comes with is a very poor downgrade from the 460 base model. The bass appears to have disappeared

If you were thinking about upgrading the sound system, your best bet is going to a high quality car audio shop instead of upgrading the system through Lexus. The pro shops usually offer many more choices of the high-end sound systems for luxury autos than your local Lexus dealerships.
