Default '21 LS 500 PVD Vapor Chrom Rim damage

Hello All,

I recently scraped the edge of my rear rim on my "21 LS 500. When I called around no one wants to repair this type of rim because its a PVD; Physical Vapor Deposition. I was told in so many words that they are not repairable by several mobile and rim repair shops. Lexus OEM rim is $1100 for just one rim from the dealer. I would prefer not to get a new rim but there has to be some third party businesses that supply Lexus OEM rims. The rim description is 20" Split 10-Spoke Alloy Wheels with Vapor Chrome Finish. I don't know the part number. If anyone has that information please pass it along.

Does anyone have any suggestions on repair or third party OEM replacement rims? I feel terrible that I did this, but I have not gotten used to the length of the vehicle and thus the mess up on a turn. Ugh!
I will definitely be more careful next time turning.

Thank in advance.

I'm surprised you didn't purchase a tire and rim protection warranty. You can take it to the dealer and see what their cost is to repair the rim.

Unfortunately the tire and rim protection does not cover the vapor chrome wheel unless it’s crack etc. I have the protection and tried to use it when I scratch my wheel and was told the vapor chrome is not cover for scratches. Check eBay I got a practically new one for $450 last year.

That wheel can’t be repaired, only replaced. If it was not chrome it could be repaired.

I have thee and love the way they look. You could file an auto insurance claim and pay the deductible.

I have the tire protection, but as another member posted below it does not cover damage to the rim.

Tire protection I purchased was $2K. it was a lot more, but I talked the finance guy down. It's still a lot, but it will cover the tires if they are damaged, e.g. nail or other puncture.

Wow, isn't it like $25 to patch a tire? Maybe $250 to replace one?

Yeesh, no kidding. That’s highway robbery.

It’d be worth it if it includes the rims. Then it would be a fair deal. You can get nearly two sets of tires for $2k. That’s a purchase you’ll never get your money back on.

The issue is the tires are run flats and as I am told they are not to be patched my tire protection I paid $1500 for and already got them to replace 3 tires from 2 nails and a bubble so to me it’s worth it especially with the bad roads in NY/NJ where I do the bulk of my driving. Also they replace a crack rim which was $1100 for the rim but since the rim is vapor chrome it does not cover scratches but if it was regular alloy wheels then it would.

I am looking at swapping my rims for a set of PVD Bright Chrome wheels from "The Wheel Exchange" in Michigan. With the exchange of your factory wheels, they will send you a full set of fresh chrome wheels for $795 plus $299 shipping and handling. (This covers shipping for all four rims both ways) I haven't yet pulled the trigger yet, but am thinking about making the move later this month. Also, I emailed them with questions and had a response within 15 minutes so they are very responsive. The PVD Bright Chrome rims come with a three year warranty on the finish. I hope this helps! Best of luck!

If you do pull the trigger, please post pictures as I am thinking of going that route. My only trepidation is, the wheel exchange is bright chrome juxtaposed to factory which has a subtle smoke tint in the chrome.

Default The Protection plan worked for me!

Sorry to hear there was problems getting your rim repaired. I have the same rim and run-flat tire setup…, and scratched my rim twice.

The dealer has an in-house repair guy that repair the rim back to an almost perfect condition! If I look very very close I can identify the repair, but it was definitely acceptable.

I’m not with the car right now, but I’ll send pictures when I return back in-town.
…And the repair was covered under the warranty… St. Louis dealer…
