Hi Guys, I just bought a 2022 LS 500, and I really love it so far. Much better quality and luxury than my 2012 BMW 740. Anyway, I've pored through the manuals and I cannot figure out how to disable the auto-lower function of the rear sunshade. I don't like how the rear window sunshade automatically lowers every time I put the car in reverse. It's unnecessary (I can see through it just fine and use the rear camera) and I don't want undue wear on the sunshade and motor, etc. Does anyone know how I can disable the auto-lowering?

Hello SpudsMcD,
Unfortunately this is a feature of the rear sunshade on the LS 500 and I believe on other Lexus vehicles equipped with the rear sunshade. in the 2021 LS 500 Owners Manual, pg. 359 I found the following:Reverse operation feature
To ensure adequate rear visibility, the rear sunshade automatically lowers when the shift position is shifted to R.
However, the rear sunshade is raised again if any of the following occurs:
- The switch is pressed again.
- The shift position is shifted to P.
- The shift position is shifted out of P and R, and the vehicle reaches a speed of 9 mph (15 km/h).
I don't believe this is customizable, but you can inquire with Lexus Service.

Thanks for the response man. I had to stop by the dealer for something else, and while I was there I asked them and the service guys were able to change the configuration settings (it's not customer-configurable). Now the shade doesn't lower when in reverse. It was a minor thing, but surprisingly annoying, so I'm glad it was easy to correct.

I could only find the manual for 2019, maybe that was added later?

The dealer has to do it. I had my dealer in Dallas reprogram it to allow me to lower it or raise it only when I want to do it. I have worn out the motors in my older Lexus cars because of that constant lowering every time it went in reverse.
They can do it.
They can do it.
