Programming Master Key, 98 LS
I'm having a hard time programming a master key fro a 1998 Lexus LS400. I'm following the instructions in the repair manual for the car, and can register the key to start the engine (i.e., the engine immobilizer feature).
However, I can't seem to program the remote control features (door unlock, lock and trunk release buttons). The sequence involves placing the key in the ignition, removing it, with the driver's side door open cycling lock and unlock five times, repeating this procedure, placing the key in the ignition, turning to on, and then removing it. After that, the computer is in programming mode, and you are supposed to press the unlock and lock buttons simultaneously followed by the lock button on the key remote. This is where the programming fails for me.
Does anyone have any direct experience doing this, especially with regard to any errors that might be in the actual repair manual for the programming sequence?
Thanks very much for any help!

In the sequence of cycling the door lock, do not use the power door lock switch. Instead, lock and unlock the door manually by using the button that is by the door handle.
This is the sequence that I used to program the remote on my 98.
1. Start the procedure with the driver's door open and other 3 doors closed and locked.
2. Insert the master key into ignition switch then remove it.
3. Cycle the door lock 5 times between lock and unlock (manually).
4. Close and open the driver door one time.
5. Cycle the door lock 5 more times (manually).
6. Then insert the master key in ignition and turn it on and then off and remove the key.
7. The locks should cycle once (if not repeat steps 1-7)
8. Hold the lock and unlock buttons for a 5 seconds and the remote should be programmed.
