I'll follow up in a couple of weeks and let you all know how it works out.
thats not too bad though considering that its inclusive of labor.

while the motor is out have him do the timing belt, water pump, cam seals, and etc... since its all due at 90k mi. anyways.

Ouch.

I don't think I've heard of any here having a timing belt break. I suppose that is good as it seems rare. Hope after the fix, your LS is

I am dying to know, did you get the belt changed at a dealer? I called my guy at Nalley Lexus, and he said if that happened, they'd eat it, since they did the timing belt service, but he also said it has never happened in his memory.
If you did get the belt changed at a dealer, I'd put up a STRONG fight.

So, did you?

Hi,

I got the timing belt changed 2 1/2 years ago at the same independant mechanic. However, the timing belt itself did not fail. It was the breaking of the cam (vvti) pulley which caused the problem which I assume caused the timing belt to lose tension and fail. I don't think I can fault anyone here. It seems like just a freak occurance.

how EXACTLY did that pulley break? Was it over torqued? Under torqued? I strongly suspect the mechanic who wrenched on it last.
