That's because it can be called any of the names you mentioned depending on who you're talking to or what manual you're reading. Here's what Sewell Lexus has it listed as: "air control valve" or "ACV" as it's often referred to on this site

Yes, also, it is NOT the "idle air control valve".

"Air control valve" => OK, "idle up valve" => OK. IACV => NO. Confusing => yes.

I've also seen it called the "power steering pressure valve", part number 17630-16040 for my '91.

Also funny thing on that Sewell link (that is the right part), is the part description: "Valve for power steering fluid loss". Sounds about right to me.

Guys,

FWIW, I am in process of tracking down a PS leak that I am pretty sure is coming from the pump body. I have replaced the low pressure hose, had the High Pressure hose rebuilt, replaced the reservoir O ring, and plugged the IAC with a bolt. None of these are leaking. Also not leaking from the pully seal.

It looks like my leak is from the back of the PS pump body, and leaks directly down onto the alternator charge wire plastic cover. I am now ordering the gasket kit for the PS pump, and going to rebuild it.

Once I get this fixed, the LS will be completely leakless!!!

It's called the ACV. I recently had all my ps system replaced (new rack, hoses, ps pump, acv). The next time the ACV goes bad, I'm going to plug it and just live with a little bit of harshness in the power steering. There is a tutorial on lexls.com on how you can plug the AVC if you need to repair/replace your ps pump.

There will be no change in the steering feel once it is plugged. However adding PS fluid instead of ATF will make a significantly stiffer feel in the steering.

It is called the Air Control Valve in the 1998-2000 LS400 service manual. It maintains idle speed when excess drag is placed on the hydraulic system during full steering lock. Fairly expensive (what isn't) seemingly dealer only item.

For rebuilding PS pumps: if the bearing is worn it will allow the shaft to move and wear out the shaft seal creating a new leak. Sewell sells the bearing to CL members for under $20.
