Default Door handles into Storage

I noticed on my wife's 2006 RX330 that the interior door handles have a bottom. So the door handle is a great place to put change or other personal items. I started wondering why the LS460 doesn't have bottoms the door handles.

So I found my 15 year old son's "kiddie carpenter" set (from when he was about age 4) and doubled side taped a 1.5" by 5" by 18" thick piece of wood. You cannot see the wood when opening the door unless you really look. And I would guess that I'll need to put some felt or other cloth to keep change from clanging against the wood. But I am SURE this will come in handy.

Wow, is that REALLY an 18" thick piece of wood??? It looks so much thinner in the pictures!

Whoops! It's not the first time I overstated the size of my wood! At least this time it was an honest mistake!

I meant 1/8th" inch, obviously.

Interesting idea, I too have noticed how the RX has storage in the door handles (the ES has had them too). The LS 430 has the same go-through handles as the LS 460. One thing, the storage spots tend to collect dust and need to be cleaned, that may be why the LS line doesn't have them.

yup, i think the LS (maybe LX too) is the only car with the go through handles? GS and IS have closed bottom too i believe. on my old sc430 and gs400 that area does get pretty dusty over time, though not sure if it was such a big deal to me

I don't buy the dust theory. LOTS of things in ANY car get dusty if you don't clean it. That's what a shop vac is for!

Why not use the change holder to the left of the steering wheel?

I DO keep change in there. The door handle is for more change or to plop my iPhone or comb or whatever. Just an extra place that doesn't appear Mickey Mouse (you can't see the bottom) for very little cost/work.

Another suggestion: self sticking black felt, inexpensive and readily available at Target, Walmart, etc.

LOL. You guys you are tampering with the "pursuit of excellence". This modification impedes on the designed flow of air that cools your sweaty palms when operating the sold doors that reek with wind noise.
