Default 60,000 mile service- $1,500?

I currently have 62,000 miles on my LX 470 and called my local dealer to see what the 60,000 mile service runs. I almost fell down when he told me $1,500! A few questoins:
Is this an accurate price (it includes spark plugs)?
Should I consider taking it to an independent shop?
Any other suggestions?

Thanks in advance for any help.

What exactly did they tell you? Is it including FWA(four wheel alignment) and balance? Take it to an independent shop. Their price is a lot better and same quality.

Try your local Toyota dealership it will save you 25% to 50%.

Consider doing the work yourself, and save lots of $$. This car is real easy to work on IMO.

Your car shouldn't even need sparkplugs yet, the iridiums are supposed to last until 90k on my 99 Land Cruiser. What all was included in their $1500 service? That is a complete RIP OFF!

I just did a price comparison between my local Lexus and Toyota dealerships for the 60,000 mile servicing. Note that the servicing for a 1997 LX 450 and a 1997 Land Cruiser are identical.

Lexus wants $1200
Toyota wants $650

There's no question where I'll be taking mine...

Default 60k c/u

I certainly wish I wouldnt have taken so much time off from reading this forum. I posted the same question months ago and was told the opposite. I was told it is best to stay with a lexus dealer for service for various reasons. I went through the 60k c/u list and pulled certain things from the check list. (ie. level control fluids, wheel bearing repacking) and left just the obvious 60k concerns. ie. all fluids flushed changed, tire rotation, break pad checks etc. I still ended up with a $1300 service bill!!! You talk about shock....I think Toyota will be working on my car in the future as well. Cudos to you for doing your homework.

Just a note on the wheel bearing repack. It's not something that you really want to skip. It's a pricey item on the list because it's a time-consuming job. Very messy. I've done it myself but don't really look forward to doing it again...but will when the time comes.

I've heard some people say that they've experienced some hesitation from some Toyota dealerships -- where the dealerships don't want to work on Lexuses claiming that they're not mechanically identical to Toyotas (LX450/470 vs Land Cruiser). With some of the newer 470s, there are differences in suspension, but aside from that, they're still mechanically identical -- with the same servicing needs.

Sorry about bring up an old thread, but my car needs the 60K sevice as well and the lexus dealer wants 1475, and the toyota dealer wants 350. The Lexus dealer says that they have platinum tip sparks vs regular ones for the Landcruiser, but I doubt that, but it does not seem that the service should be different. The toyota dealer thought that the timming belt may be changed by Lexus(which costs 450) but the Lexus dealer says not till 90k. I need to physically go to the Toyota dealer with my manual and check item by item to see if there is a significant difference, because it does not make sense that there is >$1000 difference between toyota and lexus......

I think they include a free trip to Cancun, a week in the Hilton and a brand new Ls430 rental. That would explaint his $1500 bill .

Cool

Anybody know what a 60k service would cost (ballpark) for say a 2001 ES 300 & a 2001 Camry V6 XLE at the Lexus & Toyota dealer respectively?

The average 60k cost would be from $350-$650.

Both the local Toyota Dealer and Lexus Dealer told me that even though Toyota is the parent company, all Toyota dealers have an agreement with Lexus that they charge the Lexus labor rate if someone brings a Lexus to a Toyota dealer for work. That only makes sense. Why would you take your car to Lexus if the Toyota dealer was going to only charge half as much for the service? I think you might want to check those numbers again.
