Cool Boat towing

I am upgrading from a 17 Boston Whaler Montauk to a Cobalt 246 (apx 5000lbs w/trailer)....the Whaler (2000lbs) towed like it was'nt even there!......How terrified should I be with the new rig (Shorlander Galvanized trailer, two axel, SS rotors/calipers).....seems like a perfectly good excuse for the TRD S/C and a brake up grade!
Any experienced "towers" out there?

You'll know it's back there but the vehicle will be fine. I've towed some large loads a few times now in my LX and never had any problems in the engine/braking department. That being said any reason for the TRD S/C is a good one! I haven't come up with one for myself yet but one day I will!

Perhaps your local boat dealer would let you hook up to the boat to make sure your tow vehicle will be fine anyhow.

Default Brake Upgrade?

BP01LX, you mentioned Brake Upgrade. I don't see that as a bad idea. If you're gonna spend 5 G's on going faster, why not spend a fraction of that slowing that huge LUV to a stop. What brake upgrade would you be interested in?

I personally have asked about DBA (Disc Brake Australia if I'm not mistaken) They are supposed to work very effectively. Most importantly, they may last longer therefore not have to spend too many trips back to the dealer for brake jobs.Does anyone have experience with a Brake Upgrade?

I tow a Crownline 266BR (5000lbs) with our LX and while it doesn't sprint from a stop light it doesn't feel overwhelmed by the boat either.

I tow a Baja 252 with a dual axle custom trailer (approx. 6000 lbs fully loaded) and have had no difficulty. If your trailer is set up right the braking will not be an issue as the trailer will take the load when you apply the brakes. I will say I tow in a rather flat area so if you encounter many hills or mountains that could be an issue. No upgrades are really needed to tow your boat.Upgrades may however be needed to satisfy your hunger for better overall everyday performance.
