Can someone tell me what the indicators of this problem are? I've read that it's a common problem with LXs due to a design flaw. Our LX seems to make an excessive amount of ticking after being driven, and I seem to recall that this was one of the symptoms. Is there something else that I should be looking for? Thanks.

One thing I've noticed is the smell of exhaust closer to the front of the car then the back. The exhaust should be coming out the back, but I sometimes smell it when getting into the car.

I have a buddy that is a tech for a Lexus dealer and said that the symptom would be that ticking noise that you've been hearing. More noticable @ startup or when the engine is cold, right? Anyhow.... bring it into the dealership and complain of the ticking noise and tell them it's especially when the engine is cold. They should be able to diagnose it to the manifold and get that fix. It's under warranty... hopefully your's is still active. If not... try to work something out with them. I know my dealership will do anything to make a Lexus customer happy. Good Luck
