Default 2005 LX470 Will have more HP - Confirmed

As you all know the 2005 LX470 are currently out and available.

All production models from Sept to December will have the current engine and HP.

The production model from late December to Begining of January will have the higher horsepower engine. I can say this with 100% certainity.

Thanks.

Wouldn't it **** you off to be one of the ones that buys a 2005 with the 235 hp engine and then find out that a few months later they are putting 280+ hp engines in them that also get better MPG? It would me I guess I just don't understand why they didn't put them in from the beginning of the 2005 model year? I was at the local Toyota/Lexus dealer a couple of weeks ago and they had 2 2005 Sequoia with the 282 hp engines sitting on the lot. If they can install them in the 2005 Sequoias NOW why can't they install them in the LX470 NOW??? This is very poor customer relations for Lexus. JMHO Of course a lot of car buyers don't have a clue about the technical aspects of their vehicle and may never realize they have the 235 hp engine and if they did might not even know enough to care

Was at the Toyota dealer today getting an oil change and tire rotation. Walked the lot and they had a LOADED '05 Sequoia with the new engine. It now also has the NAV that is similar to the unit in the ES330 (nav screen flips down to reveal CD/casette slots). It was black/black and pretty sharp, although I still can't get over the gearshift selector on the column. Dunno why, but I just don't like it.

Anyway, they had a five '04 LCs sitting there. I agree, I would be pretty pissed off if I just bought a new LC/LX, only to find out that if I waited a couple of months, I could have gotten the more pwerful engine.

I guess power is not of importance to LX buyers as the LX 470 this year I believe is higher than last year and considering there is several new SUVs with much stronger power than the LX.

I would like to offer an outside opinion. I have an '04 MB G500...which according to C&D, can go from 0-60 in under 8 seconds. I drove my brother's '01 LX470 (230 hp, 4-speed auto) this past weekend. I found the power to be pretty good. I did not find a problem with passing anyone or that it was sluggish off the line. I found the responsiveness to be similar to my G500. It could be that my G500 has a heavy gas pedal...but i didn't feel at all close to being underpowered as mentioned by some members on this forum. I testdrove an '04 Lx470 earlier this year and found power to be more than enough.

I realize that by numbers, LX is behind but remember that the LX does have heritage (Land Cruiser). The powertrain is as smooth or smoother than anything else in it's class. Just remember, in a recent comparo in Motor Trend, the LX outclassed the ultra-powerful Infiniti QX56 and Navigator...and this is 6-year old design (going on 7 years). And i won't even mentioned the quiet, smooth ride nor the high-quality interior appointments.

Just my opinion.

Unless they have over 300HP I don't think I would buy another LX. My wife loves our 04, but I get SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO frustrated when I have to drive it...it moves like a mule.

Sure it's smooth, but it should be with a 4.7L engine. I didn't even know it had 235HP til I read this thread...it feels like under 200, maybe cuz of the weight, but honestly I think 235HP is a JOKE for a $65K truck.

Sorry, but compared to MB's reliability, i would pay $65K for reliability over power anyday. I am only hoping that my G500 will be close in reliability to my brother's LX.

Why don't you trade the MB in?

Sure it's reliable, I don't think anyone can come close to arguing this fact. What don't you like about the MB? I'm not a big fan of them, but I would consider the new Range Rover. When we test drove it, only reason I didn't buy it is because wife wanted another LX with TVs in it.

It's a beautiful, comfortable, and luxurious machine, but the reliability has always been the Achilles Heel for Land Rover products in general. It has gotten better in recent years, but overall from a reliability standpoint, Land Rover doesn't come close to the Lexus.

land rover was losing money before, during and i presume-after BMW bought it from the british government. be careful, ford may just have problems running the brand as they did with jaguar. replacement parts may not be that cheap or available in later years.

I just find it hard to believe and company as Lexus/Toyota will make just a big change on a LX in the middle for the year. I can't beleive anyone will by a LX until the engine is upgraded. It is hard to understand
