Default '02 LX470 Nav/DVD

I asked this on the elctronics forum and got no response. Anyone over here know the answer?

----------------------------------------

I have been reading all of the old posts on how to by-pass the securtiy settings for the LX470 Nav/DVD. What I gathered is there are 2 options.

1) You go into the nav wiring, cut and ground a couple of the safety wires and trick the system into thinking it is always in Park.

2) Purchase a wiring bypass lit from eBay and install this to accomplish the same as #1.

Does anyone know if there is a preferred way to do this? Are there any negative effects to the Nav or ability to play DVD's with these wiring tweaks?

Thanks for the help.

Pull over and stop for a few seconds.

I've done the Nav/DVD bypass. It cost me about 165 total with installation and the bypass module. With the system being bypassed it also disabled the telephone system allowing me to use the telephone screen. Only problem is, is that the system is connected via a magnetic ring of some sort and every bump you hit disrupts the magnetic connection, leaving the scrren blank, only for the picture to come back after a second or 2. Hope that helps.

Go route #1. It's simple and cost effective. Save your money as unfortunately option #2 is a scam and you end up modifying the same exact wires in the same exact way through the "black box". Either way the mod only fools the display into thinking that the parking brake is set and the vehicle is not in motion. While often discussed and disputed, the nav ecu, its calculations, and your positioning accuracy are not impacted at all by this mod. You will not gain the ability to enter a destination address on the fly, only the ability (if you choose) to view the video portion of a DVD on the display. The trim on your '02 is easy to remove with limited risk of damage. This cannot be said of the revised '03 and on model year LXs. Good luck and if you do go ahead with the mod PLEASE be careful and use it wisely.
