Default Free DVD NAV Upgrade

Got a letter from Lexus saying that my 2004 LX470 has NAV problems and I am entitiled to a free DVD upgrade as long as I do it before 12-31-05.

Just got to give them 5 days notice to get the DVDs. I will do in 3000 miles at my 20k service.

Is there any other information about the NAV problems? What kind of problems are there, and what kind of upgrade will they do? We just got a used 2004 from an independent used car dealer, so I don't expect Lexus to be contacting us about this issue...or will they?

edit: nevermind. more information is available here:

If you are the owner of the LX470 and it a 2004, it still under warranty. It is quite possible that Lexus was not informed that you were the new owner so they may not send you this letter. You need only call your local Lexus dealer and give them you VIN number and about 4-5 days to get your new DVDs in so they can do the upgrade.

The upgrade just involves removing the current NAV DVDs and replacing them with the new. Lexus is really go about this stuff so you will have no problems with them.

My dealer just ordered a new DVD disc for my 2004 Toyota LC. I am not sure what has been corrected but I experienced significant problems with navi telling me that I had arrived at my destination when actually I had not. Also I have experienced problems locating addresses. Right now I am hitting about 50% (that is, the database is finding about 50% of the addresses I ask directions for). In my book that is VERY lousy and unacceptable in a vehicle in this price range.

Mine is doing the exact same thing. I had a 2002 LX470 and it worked much better. Other than that my NAV all is doing OK. The letter did say that sometime accuracy would deteriorate depending on location. Even when working perfectly, you can not expect it to find you destination all the time. In Jacksonville, roads are changing and they are building new ones at a breathtaking pace.

I can not agree that this is unacceptable but I thank Lexus for addressing the problem and taking steps to make the fix. I am willing to bet that after the upgrade, mine will perform as good or better as my 2002 LX470 did. I have never seen Lexus not stand behind what it sells and do everything to make the customer happy. I am on my 3rd LX!

On the bright side, my 2004 has been without flaw and considering the bells and whistles on a 2004 LX470 or the Toyota, I find it light years ahead of what else you can buy in the price range.

My neibors RangeRover has been in the shop for so long that they have started a law suit under Florida's "Lemon Law" to get their money back in full. The day they do, they are going to my dealer and pick up a new LX470 as they like mine very much.
