Mine started this a few weeks back. I thinks it might be in the sending unit in the tank but I really have not had the time to check it out. My LX is a 98. Hope someone else would chime in on this. All works fine untill I get to about a 1/4 tank and then it acts like yours. If you turn the key on and off it reads again. Seems worse the colder it gets. Anyone know how much fuel is left in the tank when the low fuel light comes on? I was thinking 5gal? Thanks for any help.

I have 2000 and I experience the same problem. It started happeining about three months ago. It usually happens when the is gauge is at a 1/4of a tank. Once, I had a full tank and the light was on. In that instance, I turn it off and then back on and it was fine. My mechanic states that it is most likely the fuel sending unit.

yes, when it first happened i was fueling up to go on holiday.....as soon as i topped her off, started her up, the light came on.....slowly, ever so slowly it came up to full.....not very conforting when you headed on a two week car trip.
anyway, at that time i figured it was the sending unit as well.
