Default Gas price point

At what price point does the price of used LX470's start to take a nose dive? You know how people panic, because gas goes up by 80 cents per gallon but based on their miles driven it only costs them $100 more per month. But they don't look at it that way they panic and want to buy a electric compact car and the market in large SUV's takes a dive. I think the sweet spot for buying used LX470's will hit in late May or early June. What do you think??

Hey PitBull...

I honestly don't think the price of gas is that big of a consideration when you talk about a vehicle that is at the price point the LX470 is. Don't get me wrong, we certainly all wish gas were much cheaper than it is. Having said that, I just don't think the person who shells out $70+ for an SUV are laying awake at night pondering Bush opening up some oil reserves to combat the high prices. I think if gas prices makes any of us truly that nervous, we probably have no right shelling out this kind of dough for an automobile! I do think some of the middle of the road (price wise) SUV's might be affected far more than the LX, Range Rover, X5, etc. Just my two cents.

My wife's 2000 LX470 is her daily driver. We may spend close to $100 per week but we knew when we bought it that gas would be an issue. Don't get me wrong I wish we were only spending $20 per month but we truely enjoy our LX470.

Over the past 10 years I have purchased my wife 4 SUV's. The LX470 is the only SUV she have never complained about. She even attemps to clean the thing!

I think you are right, all used large suv are going to nose dive regardless if its the lx470 or the cheaper models. I feel the buying market is going to think very serious before buying a big suv unless they really need it.The biggest effect will be on the used market, were the buyer is isnt in the same income as the new suv market. i just traded in my 2004 470lx for 2005 ls430, got a get deal exactly lowered my monthly payment and nothing out of my pocket. I can afford the gas but felt that the value of the lx470 is going to drop. Wholesalers arent going to be paying large amounts of money for a very limited market

I have a friend of mine that is a wholesaler for highline auto's. He says the best time to buy a used LX470 or Range Rover is May/June every year and this year he thinks they will be a steal. To the point that he isn't going to buy any because he doesn't have a handle on where the bottom is going to be and does not want to take a bath on them. That is quite a position for him since he normally sells 4-5 RR's per month and has now sworn off on them and LX470's and all large SUV's. He is buying GX470's and BMW X5's, it is a psychological thing since there is only a few mpg's difference between the GX470 and the LX470 but to the buying public I guess they just don't understand. I am going to see if I can "steal" a used LX470 in the May/June time frame

There is a moral issue here as well.

Owning a gas guzzling 5000+ pound SUV (of any make), is arrogant and blantly wasteful. Just because you can afford to squander the world's, and your children's, dwindling resources does not make it any more acceptable.

Now, for you soccer moms who just can't live without an SUV; check out the soon to be released RX 400H.

That's great. Didn't know they improved them that much. On regular too I bet ( you are doing a lot better then the EPA thought you would with that car). By the way what is the square footage of the house you live in?? I bet it's very small so you can conserve energy right?
