Default how to disable auto retract steering feature

I have read this on another forum that the dealer can actually disable the auto retract feature of the steering motors so that the steering column doesnt return to the settings and retract itself everytime we turn on or turn off the car.
Is there a way to control that feature without having to go to the dealer again ?

It can be disabled. It mentions it in the manual. At least it did for my LC.

it's in the land cruiser forum. www.ih8mud.com
it mentions that the dealer can do it. but if the dealer can, i'm sure there's a way for us to do it ourself. maybe the manual explains it....
gohawk, would you be kind enough to paste the procedure from the manual here.
i'm sure it's the same for the LC as well as the lx. what year is the LC ?

I have an '04 LC. Unfortunately the manual states it can be done, but you need to take in to the dealer. It doesn't give the procedure.

Sorry.

ahh ok . that's fine.
I noticed you have an 04 with navigation.
off topic, but would it be possible for you to email me the page from the manual that describes the automatic climate control troubleshooting process steps.
I'm trying to resolve the issue where the climate control gets too hot even if i put it in auto and around 68degrees.
either the sensors or the ecu seems to have a problem which the dealer obviously has been dumbfounded about and insists everything is ok.

Well I looked through the main manual and the supplemental one for the navigation system and I can't find a troupleshooting section. All I found was a section that said general operating tips and I found nothing that addresses what you mention.

Sorry.

The Lexus C-BEST system controls the Steering Wheel retraction as well as the effect of continuning to hold down the Open Button on the Keyless Entry system (default is to open all windows and the moonroof) and some other options.

There was /is a copy of the Lexus Update Guide for the2002 Model range on here somewhere that showed the capabilities of the C-BEST system. Use search to find it if you want to know more.

AFAIK to make any changes you need access to the onboard computers to reprogram the software. It is not a simple hardware switch or a series of steps to switch something on or off in a predetermined pattern.

As always ask your friendly Lexus Dealer, or failing that your friendly Lexus Customer Service Agent.

great links.
too bad it doesnt list how to change the settings without having to take it to the dealer.
i wonder if the service books mention anything about these settings.
would someone be kind enough to look into that....
