Question

I have the nakamichi primeum sound system in my LX470, but it doesn't sound nearly as good as the nakamichi system that I used to have in my '91 LS400. The LX doesn't handle bass nearly as well. It has excellent sound quality and clarity, but it really can not handle music with bass. What can be done about this without having to alter too much in the car?

Thanks guys

Anand

You are not the only one!! My 98 LX sounds awful compared to my 93 GS w/nak.
Solution: You will need to buy bass blockers, available at most stereo shops or at crutchfield.com. Install those behind each factoy door speaker. This will elimanate the low bass tones that the speakers cannot produce efficiently, thus less distortion. Next, disconnect the sub which is located on the left side of the third row. Take the wires coming off that sub, (black, black w/yellow stripe) and run it to a high/low pass converter. You can buy one for $10, but when I used the cheap one I got alternator whine. Buy the Monster Cable brand converter $65. This will convert the speaker cable into a pair of RCA wires that you may plug into an amp to power a subwoofer. I did all of the above steps. I spent about $200 for labor, well worth it, hard to do yourself. I used an Xtant X1001, and am running four Boston Pro 10's. The amp does 1000 watts of good clean power. The nice thing about the bostons is the box size doesn't have to be huge. The box is about as big as the boxes the subs came in. The nice thing it tucks away behind my third row when I put it down. This setup SLAMS!!! However you dont have to do 4 10's, I just wanted lots of bass. You can do 2 10's or even 1. The twelves dont fit behind the third row, so that might not be an option. If you have more questions I'd be glad to answer them, Good Luck!!

LX470Mann: Got any pictures of your setup (Jasoneo5@comcast.net)

Also, I want more bass but I don't want the subwoofer and amplifiers to be seen. Is it possible for me to get a aftermarket subwoofer and amp, and hook the amplifier up in a place where it wouldn't been seen? If so, where?

Thanks for your time man!

Default hidden amp

I pulled out the stock bass and put the amp in it's place. It is very tight but if you can find the right amp it is worth it. I use a wavebox with a 10" and have incredible bass.
