LX450 Wipers
Hey Everyone,
Just picked up a new used '97 LX with 97k on the odo. Local stealership confirmed most heavy duty service items were performed by Lexus.
My question has to do with the windshield wipers. They seem kinda small for the windshield. Has anyone grafted a more appropriate sized set onto theirs? Oversize 'em? (btw, mine are aftermarket ANCO's, so I can't tell if they are truly the right length or not.)
The stealership wants to charge $65 each for a replacement wiper.
Guide me, sage people!
peace,
Larry

There's really no need to replace the entire wiper -- just blades. And...there's really nothing special about the OEM wipers, so $65 for replacement doesn't make sense financially to me.
If you want originals, go to your local Toyota dealership and check the prices for a 1996 or 1997 (they should be the same) Land Cruiser wiper blade.
IIRC, the windshield blades are 18". Anything larger will not add much -- the corners of the blade will not likely come in contact with the windsheild. The size should be in your owner's manual.

Hop on to autozone and get some normal quality wipers, don't do anything at the stealer unless you ABSOLUTELY have to. Pick up a bottle of rain-x while your at it, along with the non fog one....trust me on that.
Just out of curiousity since I have been trying to sell my LX450 for about 3 years now and have given up, I would appreciate it if you could give a price range of what you paid. If not I completely understand.....

Holy shiet, your from Michigan too, welcome to the club.
One last thing, DO NOT EVER EVER EVER let Meade Lexus of Southfield do work on your car unless you personally know someone there you can hold accountable.

Good morning Everybody!
Thanks for the scoops! I'll get on them shortly, but yeah, my wipers look to be on the 15-16" side
As far as price ranges go, the seller fantasy seemed to be running in the $14-16k range for 90-110k miles (and with Lexus, you can grab the VIN and confirm actual service history). A bunch of these people never saw a dealer after 45-60k miles. I immediately deleted them from consideration.
I scored my truckasaurus for $13k from TX. I compiled data from eBay, carsdirect.com and autobytel.com.
As seen on previous posts, if the truck has around 100k miles, look at $12k, plus minus.
Thanks for the great advice.

Thanks for the info Lar.
But I have to disagree with you about the Lexus service. To a dealer your car is just another car, to someone you can trust, like a family member in my case, your car will be given much better care.
The last time I had a service done at the dealer they tried to tell me they replaced my timing belt and showed me an old one that was supposedly out of my truck. I went on to inform them that the LX450 has a timing CHAIN....
