Default Noob ques; engine oil on a fairly new LX470.

I don't really personally do maintaince on the LX470 much. However the "mainaince" bulb popped up, and I think it might be due to an oil change. Besides taking it to a shop and letting them pour in whatever, I was wondering what oil the LX470 uses.

Car is a 2004, and it has a little over 9,000 miles on it. Tried searching, but coming up with 5w40, 10w50 and whatnots, and I don't know what to use. I live in the Northeast and here we have all 4 seasons (hot, col, etc). I guess I'll be using Mobil1 since that's what i use for the Supra.

------------------------

Also, how often should I change the oil filter?

So 7 quarts of Mobil1 5w30 is good right? Is it exactly 7? Is that with a filter change or without? Cause I know you pour in less amount if you don't do a filter change.

i.e. on the Supra it's:
5.5 quarts with a filter change
5.2 quarts without a filter change

What's the diff between that and 5-30? I drive the car during the winter months too. We have snow here. I'm not sure if that makes a diff, seeing you are from hotter year-round weather.

For the amount of miles you have, stick with 5W30. If you search my posts, I have tried just about every grade of Mobil 1 in my car (call me a guinea pig for the RX forum), but I have over 95K miles and I run a 0W40/5W50(a grade you will find down here) of Mobil 1 to my proud satisfaction.

Your car is still young and in the N.E. (have lived there), 5W30 will do you well for quite awhile. Some people like to go to a 0W-40 in winter, but running synthetic Mobil1 no need to switch, keep it at 5W-30 in the winter.

You need to change the oil filter every time you do an oil change.

Just for future refference, I'm pretty sure whatever lexus recomends is on like the last page of the onwers manual.
But I could be getting it confused with my GS manual.
