Default 06 Last year for LX/TC

Hey folks...

Maybe one of you may know, but do you think this is the last year on the LX/LC? The Toyota website has limited information on it, and you can't even get a printed brochure on the 06 LC. The rumours I've heard about the LX replacement called the JX (I think) doesn't sound very appealing based on a Sequoia platform

I may have to pull the trigger and purchase one of the last few capable 4x4s Toyota has produced for the States if 06 is the last year.

Thanks in advance..R

I hope not. But the land cruisers future is in jeopardy. They may continue to sell it overseas where there is no sequoia and then lexus could continue with the Lx470. There have been alot of speculations about the sequoia based lexus i heard the name was going to be vx. Well only time will tell.

I think it would be a shame to get rid of the Land Cruiser. It is a very refined, truly capable 4x4. One of very few real 4x4's left. IMO things don't look good for it. Toyota has released the FJ Cruiser, which in spirit, is much closer to what the original Land Cruiser was. Toyota also has the Sequoia to hold down the large SUV front.

Lexus might be able to get away with another Land Cruiser type vehicle, even with the JX coming out. I think that the LC/LX are in a completely different class than the Sequoia. I doubt people would cross shop a Lexus Sequoia and a Range Rover. They might cross shop a LX and RR though. So IMO there is room in the Lexus lineup for the LC replacement, but it seems like Toyota has almost crowded out the LC front its future line up. I do think the fact that you pay 65k for a vehicle and get Toyota service is a problem with that vehicle though. They should let you take the TLC to the Lexus dealer if you like.

Hopefully I will be proved wrong. It would be a shame to see the Toyota Land Cruiser go away. If the next TLC is just a watered down mall running SUV and not a truly cabable 4x4 then they might as well forget it.

Maybe they will stop selling landcruiser in america and keep it for europe and japan. There is no sequoia there and they need vehicles like landcruiser. So they may sell it here under the lexus badge only.

In the August 15 issue of Automotive News (a trade rag for auto manufacturers and dealers) there is an article on upcoming products from Japanese automakers

Aside from a little blurb about the FJ Cruiser, it had this to say about the Land Cruiser:

Quote:
"The icon of the line-up soldiers on, but low U.S. sales mean that the redesign likely will have more input from markets such as Australia and Africa and less from the United States. The Land Cruiser will continue to be sold here; the redesign will arrive for the 2006 or 2007 model year".

Can't they stop the Land Cruiser (sadly) for the US, but keep the LX brand around?

This isn't necessarily a bad thing. More input from Africa and Australia will mean that the LC/LX will retain their legendary off-road abilites and reliability. They won't become sot, waterd down SUVs.

I know that most in the U.S. don't take these vehicles off-road, but the reason they're popular is because they're designed for use in the harshest conditions. They're extremely reliable because these vehicles can do so much more than what we use them for.

Default Lexus future vehicles

This is from AutoWeek.com:

VX: The VX sport wagon, with three rows of seats, will be the RX's big brother. The VX will be developed on the GS vehicle platform and debut in early 2007 as a 2007 or 2008 model.

The Lexus LF-X concept shows the styling direction for the VX. Power is expected to come from a 4.3-liter V-8, although a 3.5-liter V-6 might also be offered. The VX would line up against the Infiniti FX.

GX: No major changes are foreseen for the SUV.

JX: JX is the name given to Lexus' new body-on-frame SUV, arriving for the 2008 model year. One engine likely will be offered, a 5.4-liter V-8. The JX will share a rwd platform with the upcoming redesigned Tundra pickup. The JX will replace Lexus' LX SUV.
