Default Rear seat cup holder not opening

Need some help. I just bought a 2001 LX470. Really like it, One problem though is the rear seat cup holder (the one on the rear of the center console) doesn't open. It appears from the owners manual that you have to push in and then it springs to the open position. No luck.. May be that the previous owner spilled somethng sticky?? Any ideas on how to get it open. I'm close to removing as much of the center console as needed ot be able to get at the inner working of it. If their is an easier way, I'd like to hear it.

Thanks.

I had the same problem. Use something to pry and pull the tray, like wire hanger. It's easy and should hopefully come right out. I had to replace the tray because it was busted and the surrounding frame b/c the pin guide from the tray was busted as well.

Thanks for the reply. One question though. Do I use a wire hangar on the top or bottom of the cup holder? Not sure which side has the latching mechanism.

There is no latch. So anywhere around. There is a pin at the bottom that gets guided into a little track so it may or may not be stuck. Hopefully it isnt stuck. Otherwise I dont know how to remove the thing.

Tried wires, prying, pushing, banging, etc.. all I could do and no luck. About tore the back of the console off trying to get it to pop out. If anyone has so help I sure would appreciate it. Appears it has been pushed in too far and is stuck in the fartherest in position. Anyone know if Alldata has repair diagrams for this?

Sure would be nice to have some cupholders for the rear passengers in this high priced vehicle.
