Hi guys

I just fitted the new 2006 Rear lights to my 2004 LX470. it was a fairly easy operation, took about 1 hour for the whole thing including re-wiring at the rear end. IT WORKS perfect. the whole look of the car has changed. I have also installed the 2006 grill and my wheels were already Lowenhart 20" LD1 so...basically car looks like a 2006 model year...

My friend with an 03 LX is interested in doing the same thing. I called Lexus and they told me you have to order everything individually. Like the lens, housing, sockets and etc. so it is not just 2 outter and 2 inner tail light assemblies. Can you confirm this? Can you post the part numbers? Thank you!

Lexus dealers would NOT want you to do this easily. It may hurt their business if too many ppl started doing it. Its just two head units. Only thing needed to modify is the inner power lines to the newer lights. I got my Lexus LX470 In Bangladesh and had my lights are ordered from Japan from the Land Cruiser Cygnus 2006 which is exactly the same vehicle as the LX470. How much did you pay for the lights? In Japan, a set of 4 for the rear runs 195,000 yen! (~$1700 USD).

just checked ebay... looks like in 03 they started the backup lights around the license plate...

i suppose the question now is can tailgates be swapped?

Quick questions. Can somebody post some pics of the different rear tail lights? I too have a 99 I would consider this on. Also, Are the Land Cruiser and LX tails the same? I was in a country were I noticed the LED lights on a 04 land cruiser, but it was different.. it had a Inline 6, but just wondering. Nice thread.

the 06' LX tail light will not fit 98-02' LX models...i already asked this question..since i was interested for my 99' LX too, but it was a while back...anyway the only way to actually do this is to find a rear tailgate that is 03-06' LX...and slap it on to a 98-02' LX...the lights on the 03-06' LX is more angled on the inner tail light (not the lights on the license plate sides) than the ones on the 98-02' LX...and plus it has that 3rd light that is in the license plate. and if you're thinking of putting any LC tails on your 98-02' LX? wont work either...the LC tail lights from 98-06' years are very angled also and wont fit the 98-02' LX models. maybe the outer tailights (brake, turn signal) will fit on all models..but other than that...who would want that? haha.

look for pictures and compare. its pretty obvious.

Lexus is smart right?...making different from Toyota and Lexus itself to make things absolete. yea you 03-05' LX people are lucky.
