A 96? I sold a set off a 97 LX 450 for $75. Posted an ad on www.craigslist.org. Sold them in about a week or so...

The guy who bought mine put them on his 95 Land Cruiser.

Make sure you keep all screws/bolts/etc. when you remove them...the buyer will likely need them.

Reason for removing them? Not many good ones unless you want to take your LX 450 off road. Serious off-road...not just on some fire road. Some argue that the running boards protect the rocker panels a little...some argue that they do not.

They can be pushed up into your rocker panels and could cause damage.

i replaced mine with sliders from www.sleeoffroad.com. They protect the rocker panels when off-road.

Remove of the running boards is a very simple task. You'll find 5 bolts and 1 nut per side holding the running boards to the body. On some models (without front mud flaps) there are some screws that need to be removed from the rear of the front flares -- not difficult. Look at what holds them on...remove the screws/bolts. It should take no more than 5 or 10 minutes per side to pull them.

Here's a pic of what could happen if you tried to use the running boards as sliders

One more...
here's what damage looks like to a rocker panel if you don't have sliders.
(note that the cost of repairing the damage is typically more than the cost of sliders)

I got extremely bored one night and decided to see how my truck looked w/o the running boards.

unless you cna get your hands on the little mudflaps from the asian market i dont think it looks too well.

I took the left side boards off, a few bolts that went up on the body and that was it. Then i took some pictures and put it back on. The picture with the running board off is the left side and the one of it on is the right side. I mirrored the image for a better comparison so check it out.

Mine came from the factory without running boards and with front mud flaps, most of the time I remove the mud flaps for the trail, found a picture where I forgot.
