Default 2000 Lx470

Greetings.

I was looking for some input on the 2000 LX470. I am looking to purchase one from a Lexus dealer but the truck is not a CPO. I was curious if any issues were present in the 00 LX470 I should be aware of. Also, is there any benefit to me trying to locate an 01 instead? I have a price range of about $24,000 I'd like to stay within because I'll be paying cash and the truck will not be used that often (3rd car).

Thank you in advance for any responses....

I bought a 2000 LX470 three years ago with 37,000 miles. It now has 80,000 miles and I have never had any problems. I don't use Lexus service, just a general mechanic or I do the work myself. The only complaint I have is the gas mileage, but it is a very heavy truck and I feel very safe in it. I highly recommend the vehicle.

You may want to check the IH8MUD forum..... www.ih8mud.com and look up the 100-series, and go from there.... Tons of info on mechanical issues. Read the FAQ first and go from there. Good luck.

I bought my 2000 LX new, and have put over 67,000 miles on it. I replaced the tires at 65,000 miles (though they still had 10k or more left on them). The CD player has tried to eat a CD on occasion, but it's easy enough to extract the CD when this happens. The dash squeaks a bit in cold weather; I put in a couple of strips of felt and mostly fixed that problem. One of the hood struts really screams on the rare occasion when I open the hood.

The most surprising thing that happened is the truck started blowing a puff of white/blue smoke on startup. Turns out it was the valve seals, which were replaced under the 7/70 power train warranty. I don't know why this happened, since I pretty much baby the truck, have only towed a few small trailer loads, and I'm careful about the gas I put in it. I only use synthetic oil, every 5k, and it's only been serviced by either a Toyota or a Lexus dealer. My guess is it was the synthetic oil. This is the only car (out of nearly 50) that I've had that required major engine work, and ironically it was the "dependable" Lexus I always brag about.

I haven't heard/read of anyone else having this problem. Other than this, and it is admittedly pretty major, I've never had anything annoying go wrong with the truck. It still rides and drives like new. The price you mention seems about right, too. One negative I've noticed lately, though, is that the Nakamichi stereo system is so proprietary that nothing seems to work with it (MP3 players, other head units, etc.).

Despite all this I can't think of anything else I'd rather drive.

I have a 2000 LX that I bought in2001 with 11,000 miles. It is my wife's daily driver. We now have 110,000 miles , trouble free. Have towed a 5,500 lbs loaded horse trailer on a monthly basis. Only complaints are lack of power uphill when towing fully loaded and gas mileage of 10mpg when towing. Otherwise 16mpg hwy 13mpg combined city/hwy. Very safe and reliable car.

I just bought a 2000 LX470 with 105000 miles on it. This Truck was serviced at every 5k miles at the lexus dealer ship with the service cost total of close to $15000. I bought it from the VP of my Company and the interior is like flawless. No one ever sat in the car except him and the 3rd row seat and back seats still have the factory plastic on it. The truck looks like brand new from Inside. I got it pretty darn cheap. Look around and you will find a steal like that some where.

I personaly recommend getting it from a private owner with maintanance history on it.
