Default Metal shavings in transmission pan

I have a 2000 LX470 with 105k miles. Just bought it. Long story short, I had the transmission fluid done and when my mechanic took the tranny pan off there were lots of metal shavings clumped in the pan. He said he wasn't too worried because the car drives very smoothly. Should I be worried? Is there anyone who has had a similar issue? Is there anything I can do to stave off disaster? My mechanic said that the transmission fluid and filter had probably never been changed and it might be the accumulation of 100k miles of stuff. Any thoughts appreciated.

Metal shavings are actually quite common, even if just a little 'silver' in the pan so to speak. I have done a tranny flush in my RX at a Lexus dealership. Just beforehand, I noticed the fluid was silvery/pink, car shifted much better afterwars. I think you should be more worried if the fluid as brown black.
