OK...so I'm ready to QUIT pouring money into my jeep grand cherokee, and take the plunge for a used SUV. Can't decide between the LX 470, or the TLC--1998. Any suggestions? Also, is there much difference between the 98 lx470 and the 97 LX 450? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

well....
If you want Luxury and you want to be able to say "I got a Lexus!' and if you want the dual headlight look (which looks great) go with the LX. If you want to be rugged and conservative a little go with the TLC, you can't go wrong either way...both amazing vehicles, blow your mind away.
Oh....and the 450 and 470 are night and day, don't get a 450 unless you plan on off-roading instead of going to the mall. Go check out each one, you'll know what I mean.
Personally, there is no SUV on this planet I would take over a LX470 ....except maybe a hummer!
Hey, anything you need man, let me know. I haven't spent countless hours researching this stuff for nothing.

Thanks for your response, Francis! What I am looking for is something with a third seat, but NO WAY will I do the mini-van thing. I get the impression that people think it is "socially irresponsible" to own a TLC unless one plans to off-road. I'm not a soccer mom, but will definitely not be off-roading. What is the difference you refer to between the LX 450 and LX 470?? Give me any input you can.....I would certainly appreciate it!

hey
You want a TLC...GO FOR IT! The 98' and up models (100 series) ended the Landcruiser off-roading heritage basically and were labeled as "used for going to the mall" by TLC owners. But that LX470....with those headlights.....that luxury......that LEXUS emblem...it's worth it man, to me at least.
Oh, about the LX450...ever been inside a 97' Landcruiser? Well then you've been inside a LX450. All a LX450 is is a 96-97 Landcruiser with Lexus emblems and softer shocks. They completely re-designed the TLC..LX470 when 98' models hit. It was a night and day difference. The styling, the features, the power....everything. Believe me, stroll down to the Lexus dealership, I'm sure they must have a LX450 or one that belongs to a customer or somthing. Hop in one and hop in a LX470, when you do you'll say "DAMN THAT KID FRANKIE WASN'T PLAYIN AROUND!".
Whatever you need man, let me know! Hey, where you from?

Francis...its been a while man. Whats up? Anyways, there r many differences b/t the LX450/TLC (80 series) and LX470/TLC (100 series). The 80 series TLC/LX450 r underpowered according to every review. I have never gotten the chance to ride in either of them, but if ur goin off roading, racing, etc, i really dont see it making much difference. The LX470/TLC 100 series has Toyota's V-8 (also found in the Tundra) while the TLC 80 series/LX450 have a V-6. Personally I like the TLC 80 series styling out of all of them (i like it better then the LX450 b/c the LX450 had 2 tone paint instead of single tone all the way through except on the darker LX's) The TLS 80 series/LX450 probably have more of a truck ride, while the LX470/TLC 100 series has that luxury car ride. I would write a lot more but i gotta go to dinna. Hope this helps u out and let us know what u get and if u need any more insight.

thanks for the responses!
Thank you to all of you Lexus owners for the informative responses! I hope you don't think I am a traitor, but I just bought a 1998 TLC. The Lexus was a little more than I wanted to pay, but were lovely vehicles. Maybe someday i will be the proud owner of a LX 470, but for now, I think I will enjoy my TLC.

CONGRATULATIONS!
You just purchased a good looking, high end, reliable, classy and bullet proof SUV. Hey, if you ever need anything we can still help, you basically do own a LX470, you just don't have dual headlights and Lexus emblems.
Congratulations
Congratulations
