Default Larger off-road tires and the nav system - does it work?

I want to put larger tires on my LX -- perhaps 315/75R16. Two concerns:

1) What will the effect on the nav system?
2) Will there have to be any body/chassis mods for them to fit?

I would appreciate some help on this as no one around here is sure of these answers.

Thanks,
Trav

i know some nav systems on cars (audi) use tire/wheel speed to help calculate your position, i'd ask lexus.....

Hey,

I just put on 285/75/R16 BF Goodrich A/T tires!
I'll take some pics and post them!

No suspension mods, just still the stock AHC.

You might have to raise your LX permantley or take out the AHC and replace it all together.
You can always test fit them to.

Default Great look

Those look great. Thanks for the response.

DId they affect the NAV in any way? Did you swap out the speedo gear?

I don't want to swap the AHC as the truck is used in town as well as out 4wheelin. The AHC is one of the reasons I got the LX instead of the Land Cruiser; I knew there would be some trade offs.

Thanks.

Since its a 1999 I don't have a Nav system. I just ordered the speedo correction!

Read your User Guide: The Sat Nav has a reset function for new Tires that recalibrates the Sat Nav.

Also avail from the Info Menu on the Sat Nav.

I was under the impression that the new tire setting on the nav was assuming stock-sized tires. There isn't any way to input the tire size into the nav, or is there?

Why would you need to Input the new tyre size when the system recalibrates during the New Tyre size operation? (As in Distance travelled according to the Sat Nav and that by rotational calculation based upon tire rotations)

The Sat Nav only uses the tyre calculation when it cannot detect enough signals to determine position along a road, as in a Tunnel. As soon as it detects enough signals it corrects position. If you deviate in a Tunnel onto another Road not specified by the Sat Nav directional system it shows you as following the road it thinks you are on, and will place you on that road based upon tyre rotation distance.
