Default Disable Steering wheel moving

I have a friend that asked me to post this for him.
He has 2001 LX470, when putting key in Ignition, the steering wheels automatically power moves into postion. h
He'd like to turn this feature off, so the wheel doesn't move anymore. The truck never used to do this, but now has started doing it.

Thanks,
Paul

Some of the older Lexus vehicles (my old 96 LS400) had a button on the side of the steering column that could turn the auto function on and off. Look for a button. If not, the dealer can no doubt turn it off with their scanner, but I'm sure they will charge to do it. I know on the GX, the dealer can turn that function off.

The auto button is not an option on the LX. But I think you can have it turn off at your local lexus dealer.

There must be a way to do this ourselves?

Maybe there is a separate fuse you can pull out to stop the wheel from moving?

I had the dealer disable mine. Also had other multiplex stuff customized at the same time (IIRC, I have the moonroof stay shut but 4 windows will lower if unlock button on key is held down, doors stay locked when gear shift is put into park [had a close-call in a not-so-good part of town just as I turned the engine off], headlights turn off immediately once engine is turned off [why would you want the headlights to stay on for 15 sec by default?], doors lock at 13mph).

There has to be a way to tutn this off ourselves? I won't be driving 40 min to the lexus dealer to have this. There must be a series of buttons to pushm or a combination of turing the key on/off a few times. I've seen this work for other features, but can't figure it out.

Anyone else?

Jim, those are good recommendations. i've often wondered about some of the "intuitive" decisions Lexus made about our cars. My biggest pet peeve is that i can't run the radio when the car is off and a door is open without that annoying "ding".

why turn it off? it makes the LX look high tech and everything. haha. and I wouldnt think any of you members would take it to the Lexus dealer and have them charge you for labor to just shut it off. Has anyones LX steering wheel start to squeak when you insert the key? Mine did, and then all of a sudden it stopped..

A few guys on the mud forum have said their steering wheel retracting motors became noisy, then broke and replaced under warranty. I can only see it being necessary if, say, the driver is too obese to get out of the car.
