Tow Hitch Issues...LX470 & Land Cruisers
Ok, So I called various dealers to purchase the tow package "originally" offerred by Lexus for the 04 LX470, where I end up finding out they discontinued it since 2003.
I wish I had known this, since towing is one of the reasons I bought the truck in the first place. Disappointing to say the least.
My question is...can I buy a tow hitch from Toyota for the Land Cruiser and install it on my LX? It is essentially the same chassis design.
Currently my set-up is a rectangle cosmetic bumper plate, when removed reveals a steel square openning with 4 holes surrounding it. Also included is the plug-in adapter to connect trailer brake/signal lights. So there seems to be a 1/2 set-up in place. But the bumper looks to weak to pull 6K lbs. I also verified with the dealer, all LX470s come with ATF cooler, so that's not a problem.
Ideas...thoughts...?

I'm not sure it will fit. The LX was the only model to have the hitch integrated into the bumper. The LC has the receiver hitch mounted below the bumber. As a result, LXs with the integrated setup are only rated to tow 5,000 lbs, while the under-bumper setup (LCs and older LXs) are rated at 6,500lbs.
I do not believe the two setups are interchangeable.
