Default Tow Hitch Issues...LX470 & Land Cruisers

Ok, So I called various dealers to purchase the tow package "originally" offerred by Lexus for the 04 LX470, where I end up finding out they discontinued it since 2003.

I wish I had known this, since towing is one of the reasons I bought the truck in the first place. Disappointing to say the least.

My question is...can I buy a tow hitch from Toyota for the Land Cruiser and install it on my LX? It is essentially the same chassis design.

Currently my set-up is a rectangle cosmetic bumper plate, when removed reveals a steel square openning with 4 holes surrounding it. Also included is the plug-in adapter to connect trailer brake/signal lights. So there seems to be a 1/2 set-up in place. But the bumper looks to weak to pull 6K lbs. I also verified with the dealer, all LX470s come with ATF cooler, so that's not a problem.

Ideas...thoughts...?

Yes, the LC ones should fit..the rear chassis is exactly the same. If you're interested, I have a drawtite towbar I removed from my '03 LX sitting in my garage (came w/ the tow package). It bolts to the bottom of the chassis with 6 bolts (4 use the stock extraction eyelets/hook bolts plus 2 others), receiver is below the stock bumper so you can keep the cosmetic cap on. I replaced my tow package tow bar with an aftermarket Kaymar rear tow bumper (towbar is part of the bumper, all steel), so my stock towbar is collecting dust. PM me and make an offer. BTW, the front and rear bumpers for the '03-05 LX are the same. My vehicle has spent its entire life in Tucson (5% humidity), so no rust on the towbar.

Possibly interested. Can you post a few pics of it? then we can go from there.

I'm not sure it will fit. The LX was the only model to have the hitch integrated into the bumper. The LC has the receiver hitch mounted below the bumber. As a result, LXs with the integrated setup are only rated to tow 5,000 lbs, while the under-bumper setup (LCs and older LXs) are rated at 6,500lbs.

I do not believe the two setups are interchangeable.

Sorry, no digital camera (gotta upgrade the mac OS first). I have some scanned rear shots of the vehicle with it mounted, not sure if it's very visible since it's black. It's this exact tow bar...you use 4 of the existing tow hook/tie down eyelet bolts plus two other bolts. I'll try to see if I can find a shot of the vehicle w/ the towbar tonight.
