Have a thread on this at MUD, but thought I'd post it here, also.

I took my Gen 2/3 cpu (under the seat) out of my LX and installed a Gen 4. I also installed this JDM microphone kit.

What I got:
Gen 4's faster route calculation
Gen 4's better graphics
Gen 4's building footprints
Voice command recognition (with $50 JDM kit)
ability to use G4 or G5 discs

What I did not get:
Bluetooth (still researching this)
Rear camera (this is doable, I just don't care for it)
TRIP INFORMATION screen
TELEPHONE screen
CALENDER screen

The screens may or may not be part of the head/display unit ROM. I may tinker with the OS Loader in the Diagnostics menu to see if I can unlock them.

So this isn't really a go out and spend money upgrade, but it's just a consideration if your G2/3 cpu craps out on you, or you see a G4 cpu on eBay for cheap.

All in all though, it's a pretty significant upgrade. My wife noticed right away and loves it.

On a side note, a G4 head/display unit also works with a G2/3 cpu.
