When we bought our LX the finance manager was going over the usual warranty protection packages with us and asked if our LX had the Night View system. It seems that if you do, your windshield is over $3k OEM!!!!

Allstate. But glass coverage varies from state-to-state. I'm in Arizona. I actually can't remember if I pay extra for the glass coverage or not.:-) I know it's not under comprehensive. If I did pay extra, it's because when I lived in Denver 16 yrs ago, my 84 toyota pickup got bombed by golf-ball sized hail. Back then, my insurance was based in CA, as I was living in CO for only a few months. Glass was under comprehensive in CA.
I gotta say, making the claim was very hassle-free. I did it all over the phone and faxed the guy the estimate so he could start the paperwork, then the invoice after the work was completed. Got the check in a week or two, never even had to take the vehicle in to have it inspected!

Check with your agent first if you don't want to file a claim.

In NY, it was included in the comp. If it were under comp in AZ (my comp deductible is either $500 or $1K, can't remember), I would have had to pay the deductible. My glass coverage is 100%.

With that said, I've worked for a mjor insurance carrier for close to 19 years so I'm a bit familiar with this stuff. Carrying such a high deductible on comp may not be as cost-eefective as one might think.
I went through the same decision process a few years ago. I had a $0 deductible on comp. When I inquired about raising it, the money I was going to save annually wasn't enough to justify the cost I would have in the event I had a claim, so I kept it at $0. Now it may be different in NY so I will defer and assume you've already done that research.
Deductibles on collision coverage are an entirely different story. Raising your deductible there could provide substantial savings.

your truck is about 15 feet long, so i doubt the crack in your windshield is such a length.
For 100 dollars, get it fixed with OEM Toyota/Lexus glass and be on your way.

I definately agree: only having to pay $100 and getting OEM materials and dealer warranteed workmanship, backed by insurance - probably the best way to go...
