2000 LX-470 clockspring/spiral cable
Just joined the forum....great info. Quick question. Just bought a used 470 and low and behold, the horn and cruise control are not working and the airbag light remains lit. From the research I have done from here and other Lexus sites, it looks to be the clockspring. (I saw the airbag light on before purchasing and ran a carfax...so figured a simple reset would do it...but who'd a thunk to check the horn and cruise before purchasing a used vehicle?!)
I tried the airbag light reset procedure..which actually seemed to work...for all of 3 seconds...until I started the car and the computer recycled. Now knowing that all three are a problem...it must be the spiral cable. I have heard of people removing it and soldering the ribon wire back in place with success, but wondering if you folks can recommend the following:
1) If I were to purchase a new one- where would I go for the best price? (My dealership is a total rip off....surprize.)
2) Are there used ones available?
3)Has anyone performed this fix on their own.
No need to warn me about airbag safety...got it..unhook the negative etc etc. Thanks in advance! -Ryan
