Who would consider upgrading to the LX570?

I am off-roading the LX470 for close to 8 years now, regularly. The suspension travel was not a problem in my experience (even on pretty rough mountain terrain here), or crawl ratio. Only three things: weight (biggest enemy of the LX), size (could do with a bit smaller truck), and a bit more protection all around (the bumpers, sides, paint get scratched regularly). The LX450 was a bit better off-road, but LX470 is better looking and better all-around truck. By the looks of it the LX570 is taking it a bit too far into the city SUV territory than I am prepared to follow.

In what way?? The LX570 is more comfortable and more luxurious, but it's off-road ability is no less than LX470 and IMHO slightly better than LX470. But, i do like the LX470's exterior shape better.

Size is a limiting factor of the LX470 offroad. There was a trail I went on in CO that went up to this lake. From there, there was a narrow dirt road that went alongside the lake w/ a sharp dropoff into the lake and sharp rise on the other side. There was one narrow spot w/ a large boulder. I could have easily made it in my '86 4runner, but in the LX, it would have meant potential damage due to the extra 12" of width. The new LX will be even longer/wider, so more potential problems, IMHO. Also, there are no bumpers/body armor for the new one, and the one piece front bumper that includes the part between the headlights and grille and part of the front quarter panel will make bumper fabricators balk at the difficulty. Look at the LC prado w/ the huge rear bumper like on the 4runner. It's been out for 5 yrs in Australia, is the #1 seller, yet no one there makes a steel replacement bumper for it.

Rover/Tig...keep the offtopic to a minimum.
The stock length on the 570 will be the same as a LX470 with an ARB Sahara front bumper. After market bumpers aside, I think the new 200 series(570)truck just looks too minimalist in its bodylines. The lack of cladding give it a very plain vanilla feel in person, you look at it and say, whats so special? With the hood, sure it has some shapes and definition, but the sides are very boring.
From the dead on front view the 570 is "appealing" but everything else looks plain vanilla, then you get to the rear and go, huh? what happened here? They tried to take the 470 rear i think and modernize it yet again, when i think they should have done away with the seperate reverse lights and such.

Huh? Just go back to your corner, ok.
Jim, although the aftermarket off-roading modification may be limited/restricted, you cannot use that to criticize it's off-roading CAPABILITY. Most LX470 owners who do off-road do very minimum mods to their vehicle...only a small percentage of these owners buy ARB bumpers, lifts, etc.. Take Akoch for example...he off-roads recreationally and he has neither bumpers nor tires even (based on his pics).
Although size is a problem on the LX570, it is still not that much bigger than the already huge LX470.

I think the added size will more than offset that.

Looks play a big factor for me. After seeing pics of the new LX570 from all angles, I won't be trading my '03 LX470 in like NEVER. That truck is just plain ugly anyway you dice it. What were they thinking ? Going from the 450 --> 470
and from 470 --> 570
I don't much care for the family L-Finese crap... A truck is a truck... is a truck... Up-marketing the 570 and turning it into a mall crawler is a bad idea. Look at the LX470 and the LX570 and tell me which looks better !!! I'll take my LX470 any day.

As far as offroading size, even my 4runner sometimes feels large offroad (in the turning radius area, not width). Best vehicle I've seen for offroad is a BJ40 this guy in Japan modded w/ 2UZ V8 and 4spd tranny.

Val, you're gonna have to get one of those ARB "nudge bars" like they make for the Subaru and RAV-4.

The complete absense of body protection does not make me feel any better. That little that the 470 has is hugely helpful. So far I only had to replace the bumbers a few times, every few years. The rest still fine.
I have not tried the LX570 off-road, but do think it will be less capable, just like the LX470 was less then the LX450. And I 'could' live with it (not without complaints), but the exerior looks, together with the overall evolution of the vehicle in the undesired for me direction is likely to make me pass on it. If I only could get that interior into my LX470... BTW, in my uneducated opinion the LX570 exterior design does not look any more modern than the LX470. Just different and of the city SUV/minivan/minibus theme, leaving 'rugged and strong 4x4' theme behind.
