Who would consider upgrading to the LX570?

Update: went today and got myself a 06 LX470 with 9,500 on the odometer. Traded in my trusty 98... will be missing it, it proved itself and still looks and drives like new. I guess a 570 is postponed for quite some time for me, until the next style update at least.

The LX570 is an OK truck, but it does not scratch the surface of the LX470. There are a few of the new 570s already prebuilt in the Asahi terminal (mid August). Probably awaiting to be shipped to the US some time soon. I have an 06 LX470, which seems to be a better truck to me then the 08 LX570. thus I am keeping mine for now.

Not only that, but Toyota's Japanese website no longer lists the LC100 or LC Cgynus. In fact, since the LC70 stopped production (for the JDM market) in '03, there is currently no LC available at all other than the Prado (not really a LC). This means they are currently building the new '08 LC, but they aren't available yet for sale.

I have been watching this thread for a while and I thought I would just jump in now. I am sure Toyota Motor Corp in Japan are reading what owners are saying. I was very lukewarm to the new LX when I first saw some pictures.
Before I go into the LX570, let me just say that the current model is dated and obsolete by today's standards.
The new LX570 is the right way to go. 380+ hP. 4 zone climate control, slightly bigger design, world class interior.
NO doubt after some time. The new LX is the right way to go.

dvd navigation with rear entertainment
full lockers and a decent amount of ground clearance
led tail lights
etc
the LX can hold it's own, if it were given more attention I'm sure Toyota would've continued the LX. A new chassis is nice, but it's not like the LX was dated compared to the GL and X5 and others. Especially considering how versatile the LX is yet how smooth it's on road manners are.

I vote with my dollars, that's all I can say. Toyota is not going to see a check from me unless they do something I what to have. If they could not care less - what can you possibly do.

1. 268 hp does not cut it anymore. 380 hp will
2. mediocre tow capacity. 6500 lb max I believe.
3. No dual climate control up front.
4. No 2nd row captain chair options.
5. No DAC or Hill Assist (When Lexus less expensive GX can be eqquipped)
6. No cooling seats.
7. No power rear hatch
While the current LX is nice, it really is time to go to a bigger, better, more luxurious, more powerful truck. ...
The LandCruiser which the LX esentially is came last in a 2005 Truck Trend Off road comparo which they state that the 4wd system is out of dated but simple.
The Range Rover beat it in a Motor Trend comparo in 2004. The Lexus did well but came in at #4.
The Lx does a lot of things well, but it really is time for a redesign...

Pagemaster, my advice would be - forget the Truck Trend etc comparisons. Just take the LX470 and the RR and a few others off-road. That will remove most of the questions for you, without reliance on the ... mmm, various magazines.
Not everyone need a bigger (read me) and power powerful truck. I would not mind a better/more luxurious one though, or just updated. I really like how the RR takes its heritage seriously. I am amazed why Toyota is willing to forgo theirs so easily.

I am confused by some comments above...besides the size (which is minimal anyway when compared to TLC100's size), why would you guys think the LX470 a better off-roader???
All the electronic nannies will only make it safer for an off-road beginner. Cross-linking suspension is a significant improvement, esp. with the front IFS. Since the LX570 (nor LX470) does not have axle lockers, suspension travel is key...thus, cross-linking suspension is a big plus.
You guys have not mentioned the big rims on the new LX570 as a negative to off-roading. It is. However, more and more tire companies are making off-road tires for the big rims. So, we will see.

I think that the "off-roading" heritage of Toyota is being focused on the FJ Cruiser. The LX is now more of a luxurious big SUV, along the same lines of a MB GL550 or Porsche Cayenne or future BMW X7. Of course, the LX570 is not too shabby off-road either...and i think that it is inherently slightly more capable than the LX470.
