Some guy in an old 4Runner slapped a fake "Lexus" and "LX 470" badge onto his car. Looked really tacky...

Don't have any pictures, sorry. I should've taken some with the camera on my phone. Oh well.

Anybody else have any run-ins with posers with fake Lexus, Mercedes, or BMW badges just so they can "buy" the prestige that comes with those luxury vehicles without actually paying for one?

I see TONS of fake BMW M3, M5, and even M7 (ROFL). Its sad to see people pretend to own what they don't have.

 

In Japan, a lot of people put lexus badges on their landcruiser 100's and landcruiser cygnus' (cygnus is identical to the LX470 except right hand drive w/ a mirror at the front left corner and toyota badges throughout). Same options, but list is $10K less (since the car tax is ~$10-15K). Some guys have gone beyond just changing the badges...they change the door scuff plates, airbag assembly, keys, driver's side wiper blade w/ wing attachment, rear cargo mat (imported from US of Australia...$300 for the rear mat alone), you name it. One guy in LC mag even bought the lexus brand leather cleaner/conditioner! Part of the reason is Toyota doesn't sell the LX470 or GX470 in Japan, but you can buy most of the parts/emblems there for a huge premium. Likewise, guys w/ LC Prado's buy GX470 front grille's, rear tail lights, etc. Then you have GX owners here buying Prado tail lights...putting tail lights on from a much cheaper car ($30K base) just to be different.

 

The sad thing about poser-badging performance cars (like the Ms) is that generally the people that will be impressed are also the people that can spot the fake.

 

If the car is old or a typical POS then I overlook most stuff but I did see a pretty new Acura TL with AMG on it

 

wow, that's a first for me for sure, usually I see alot of fake BMW M's and Mercedes AMG all the time

 

Haha, too funny.... Once i seen a guy with a 97 or something camry with Lexus emblem in the front grill and on the back.. I just pass by and chuckle to myself

 

I have seen a Lexus Corolla, V8 Neon & Yaris.

I've seen camery's with AMG or M's on their trunk, and most of them who does that are usually fob's. I am not even kidding, if you go to city of industry in So. Cal. u might b able 2 find those fob's w/ emblem of something totally different or weird.

When I was in Japan I saw Lexus emblems on a lot of Toyotas. I've also seen a Jag hood ornament bolted onto a POS Accord or something like that...it was a while ago.

Well I saw a dodge neon at costco with the Lexus "L" logo attach to the neon logo minus the n from the neon. It said Leon and I was like WTF?
