Default How long has your OEM battery lasted

Just curious. I have a 2000 LX 470 I took delivery on in Feb. 2000 that still has the original battery.

I had the 45K service checkup today at the local Lexus dealer and he said the battery looked great, but that they can die suddenly, and you never know when. They have a Lexus branded replacement battery for $150., but he said the batteries on the original car have an 84 month warranty. I'm at the end of that, and will get it replaced soon.

Just wondering how long others have found battery life to be.

4 yrs, 3 months in AZ, and AZ heat is tough on batteries. Most cheapo domestic batteries last only 1.5 yrs. I replaced it w/ an Odyssey PC1700 MJT (full metal jacket).

Last week I sold my truck with the original battery (98). My dealer mentioned that this is about norm to have 5+ years out of it here, BC climate.

I bought my 02 LX with 82k miles on it (approx. 2.5 mos ago). The day after we brought it home, the battery died. It was the OEM. I replaced with an "upgraded" Autozone battery with 10 year warranty. Cost me about $85 and has more cold cranking amps than the stock.

We usually start having problems with batteries after the 5 year mark, so we just replace 'em every 5 years to be safe. (I hate being stranded on the side of the road) My SC400 battery lasted 6 years, so that's not too shabby. We're still both on our OEM batteries right now until next year.

My 2000 had the OEM battery that just gave out on me in March of this year. I shopped around and eventually settled on an Interstate battery for $125. This the same battery as the OEM, according my local independant Lexus repair shop.

Personally, i would change any battery after 5 years...you just never know when it will go out...and it could go out at the worst time.

***UPDATE***

I spoke too soon. I was cleaning out the LX last weekend and had the windows down and the radio on (ACC off by the way) and the battery ran down, dead in about 20 minutes. The battery was marked with a manufacture date of 9/2002, so I got my money's worth. $104 with a new battery later at NTB and the truck starts up strong. Not a bad investment for another 5 years of use.
