Default LX470 locks and unlocks itself

Hi all, first post here. anyway, to cut to the point, I've pretty much taken over maintenance responsibilities for my girlfriends 2000 LX470(except for MAJOR work)

anyway, she was driving it yesterday and the car just locked itself. a little later it unlocked itself. it kept doing this sporadically while she was driving.

today she got to work and hit lock and it immediately unlocked itself. this happened about 10 times in a row.

I jsut went and tried to get it to do it and it wouldn. with the car on, off, with the fob, and with the switch.

I'm thinking either a semi-broken wire somewhere, or possibly(unfortunately) a body control module.(or whatever everyone in lexus land calls it. I work ford parts, so I'm pretty familiar with autos and parst).

anyone ever ran into something like this before?

Nope, but how is her multiplex door lock setting set? I thought default was to lock when you put the tranny in "R," and to unlock when in "P." I had mine reprogrammed so it would lock as soon as the speed hit 15mph. My guess is the mode that it's set in will indicate which wires/connectors are bad. From the location, my guess is maybe salt corrosion inside the doors? The ECU's seldom go wrong (ECU's in my '86 4runner are still working fine). It's generally the sensors that go bad or if in the [driver] door, opening/closing the door many times creases the wires, causing a short and some malfunction. The toyota connectors are pretty good (haven't had any issues w/ any leaking). The AHC sensors are notoriously for getting corroded on vehicles where the roads are heavily salted.

2000 models do have the Lexus Personal settings. They didn't start that until 2002 model year. I'm with David on this one. It's haunted. Let us know if it starts again. I will look around in the manual trouble shooting. Good luck.

Could it be that her door lock actuator is getting ready to call it quits? My driver's side door lock in my GS is doing it right now. We hit lock and then it unlocks itself automatically because not all locks moved when they were supposed to. The GS will get fixed when it goes in for the 80k service.

Anyways, good luck!
