Angry 02 LX 470 Navigation Disk Error

Just bought an 02 LX 470 and the navigation does not work! There seems to be a "disk error" or the Nav computer is not reading the disk. I checked the CD and it looks brand new from factory with no scratches. Tried reloading and testing many times but the screen keeps saying "Insert Disk"? Is this a common problem with the 02 model? I've heard many others complaining about this same issue. Don't want to spend $5,000 getting a new one at the dealers so any ideas to fix the Nav computer under the passenger seat would be greatly appreciated...Help!!!

Default DVD/NAV disk error

I have a 2002 LX470 that had the same problem. The DVD/NAV unit under the passenger seat went bad, this is a $1400.00 part (not including installation) from the local Lexus dealer. I don't remember what I spent on the install, it wasn't much. Hope this helps.

Same thing happened to my 2001 TLC a few months ago. Dealership said it was the laser reader that went bad. $1,4000.00 to replace the unit under the passenge front seat. I haven't had it fixed yet. I'm still really pissed that the thing went south on me. It's not like the radio head unit has gone bad and you could get something better from the aftermkt. I feel your pain brother, we're screwed !!

I would go back to whoever you bought it from. Was it working when you took delivery? If not, I would go aftermarket imho.

That sucks.

I wanted to bring this topic back up since my 02 has come up with a "Can't read Disk" error. This thread says that the computer is under the passenger seat. I can't seem to see or find it. Where is the disk unit so I can remove the disk and check the connections? thanks

Have you guys tried a cd lens cleaning disk and/or a can of air to blast out any dust which may be on the optics of the drive? This may be worth a try since it may be a matter of dust affecting your laser pickup...

It is the ONLY thing under the passenger seat! The front passenger seat that is just to be clear (not the middle or rear seats). It is huge, you absolutely cannot miss it.

I found the unit thank you. I pulled the disk out and cleaned it but that did not fix it. I will see about blowing it out with air. Thanks

Sorry to be late to post this memo, but the Audio & Video Service Stop in Massachusetts is able to service some Denso nav units, by mail. Our 01 Land Cruiser Denso nav unit had failed with 'no disk detected'. Toyota provided their funny replacement quotes and Denso washed their hands of it. We sent ours to these guys at http://www.videoservicestop.com and $400 later were back in business. Still high, but not as. Considering they're the only ones I've encountered who are servicing these, the price is fair for now.

I encountered a brief comment on another forum alluding to a 6 year life for these units, and another mention that this A&V outfit has been seeing 2 of these units/day in for service over the past while. One recommendation to prolong life is to remove the DVD if you will not be using the nav.

I just did what they do for $400 myself... replaced the little motor in there that burns out. My dad's RX300 NAV system is now working again... its a little bit of a chore getting it apart and back together, and some light soldering but its doable. Took me 2 hours the first time... I could do it no problem again in about 1 hour this time.... PM me if you want some assistance replacing your motor.
