Default Slow Acceleration

My father has a 2001 LX 470. He asked me to see if there is any way to improve the acceleration. It seems that having a large V8 engine, this SUV should have better acceleration.

Is there any chip/upgrade that would improve this?

He does do the ECT and uses Premium. Still it accelerates slower than a Honda Civic. The Suburban is significantly faster. He has to be cautious on pulling out or merging. It has plenty of torque, just not very quick.

How does this help? If you have something constructive, I'd appreciate it.

The 100 series SUVs by Toyota were never really designed for acceleration like performance. I have the 4.7 without vvti and I must say that it does lack a little upper rev performance. Not much you can really do.

If you get your acceleration you will not get any mpg...not like it gets good mpg anyway

Try a free flow muffler to start.

I don't think acceleration is meant to be one of this vehicles attributes! In 2000/2001 the HP was very low for a big V8.
