Default Go with 275 or 285 tires?

I am needing to replace my tires on my 2003 lx470. i am going to buy the michelin latitude tour hp's. Here is my question: Should i go with 275 or get a larger section width with the 285s? i believe both are ok to use. any words of wisdom would be appreciated.

I used to have 285s on 16' rims and liked it more than the current 275s on 18s. Just yesterday climbed a boardwalk and hit the rim(!), which was unimaginable on the 16s. An off-roader they say?

'04 LX470

I'm using 285/60-18 on the factory 18" rim, and they are perfect... looks better, more grip... better braking, etc. Been using them for 3 yrs, and about 70k miles... no prob.

I've also been using 2" wheel spacers on all 4 hubs, and it brings the wheel/tires out just a hair past the fenders. Looks great! Handling is noticeably better... It's hard to describe, but the truck feels much more stable, and I've been using them for over 80k miles... no problems~

I got the 275X60X18 Michelin Latitude Tour HP on my 2006 LX470.

They are fantastic.

I presume that either the 275 or 285 would be fine.

Without spaces and using stock rims, can you fit 285 tires without rubbing?

What about 295? I have a 2001 LX470. Would it rub? Also would it stick out of the fenders?

My uncle (who sold me his mint condition LX470), just bought a Mercedes GL550. This truck must be driven to believe how solid it feels on the road. It has 295s w/ 21 inch AMG rims. I want to create a similar feel. Is this possible?

You do have the better truck IMO, asong26.

Give your uncle's GL a few years...it will rattle and creak, esp. if your uncle plays rough with it.

I'd like to believe that. My truck is very nice. I love it. My only gripe(s) are:

1. Outdated Stereo / Entertainment System. This is being fixed: Look here:https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...=1#post3411418

2. Feathery handling (even with the shocks cranked to sports mode).

Other than the above, it's the perfect vehicle for me.

Yeah, but remember that your LX is a truck-based SUV that can go off-road. The GL is more-or-less a crossover that is not happy off-road.

Agree. However, I am not a big off-roader. Even if I did go off-roading, It wouldn't be anything crazy.

Majority of the time, the car will stay on the pavement. I just loved that solid feeling I had driving the benz. Other than the unibody construction, I am pretty sure that most of it is due to the suspension / tires....

Yeah, that is unfortunate aspect of owning these vehicles. It is like owning a Porsche 911 Turbo and driving it at grandma speed all the time. To really appreciate these vehicles, one must use it to it's max potential.

I understand where you're coming though...the GL is definitely a better vehicle overall on-road.

Would it be possible to fit a 295 on there with the proper off set to prevent the wheels from sticking out of the fender too much? Anyone know of a good combo?

Hmmm...very interesting. Where did you get the spacers? Do you have any pictures of your truck?

I've been thinking of doing the same thing.

Several are running 295/75-16 on stock wheels and suspension without clearance issues.

Thanks for that info. I'm definitely going to get some 295s very soon. I'll most like buy a brand new wheel / brake / rim set, and keep the stock rim/tires for winter, or special off-road camping trips.

It's not like you can get much for the stock rims over ebay so mine as well keep them for special needs.

Thanks.
