after reading all this..... is why do you differentiate the LX470 and TLC100? Like one or another is/isn't an off-roader etc. It's the same vehicle, LandCruiser 100 vs. LandCruiser Cygnus in its real incarnation. And the latter differs from the TLC100 by only the facia and the tailgate lights. AVS, AHC, lather, same optitron dash on both. I still don't get this 'L' thing, and I'm still not comfortable with it.
So the resume is that LX470 and TLC100 do equally impressive off-road, and they both look at home there. The rest is non-relevant.
Cheers,
Alex

you don't have to tell us that stuff......
but.......if you wanted to go off-roading why would you buy a Lexus instead of a 15k cheaper Landcruiser? Oh and the LX I'm fairly certain has softer shocks, less wood grain ammenities, less sound proofing and other various cosmetic things....

I do off-road, fishing and exploratory trips on weekends, while commuting to work every day - and this makes a noticeable difference.
Besides, I do not do the most extreme off-road, so the stock shocks do fine to me. I love exploratory trips, as an example try doing 800 back-roads/off-road kilometers in a day, and i'll see why the TEMS suspension is so nice. Oh yeah, my own experience -- helps if you're stuck in the mud crossing a river.
The last thing is that Land Cruiser with leather, TEMS, optitron and AHC is not available in Canada. In fact TCL100 is not available at all, only as the LX470. So here you go.
As far as I know TLC100 comes pretty stripped down for the US market, so if you beef it up to the comparable to Cygnus level it will cost about the same, right? It is the same car anyway, but the LX's front looks kinda nicer with the halogen projector lamps.
Ideally I'd love to be owning not the 'L' version, but the authentic TLC Cygnus. I have a long standing preference for Toyota, based on owning TLC80, Crown, Camry, Celsior in the past.

Hey all,
The LX470 has one technology that is better than TLC:
LX470 can raise the body via electronic height control. This allows you to avoid body panel damage...thus, letting the frame take the hit rather than the plastic body parts. Also, by raising it up, you can improve approach and departure angles.
Thanks.
