Hey here's my first posting on a just bought 1998 LX470 with 141K miles. Had
Lexus dealer search maint. records per VIN Number. Nice clean paper trail w/ all maint. performed. Came w/ new Michelins -- otherwise 100% stock. Found owners manual on EBay for $25. Now playing w/ various octanes to max. MPG.
Prev. owner of 5-6 FJ60s, so am pleased so far w/ 15 MPG daily driving. Removed rearmost seats (100 lbs.?) as not needed. Is there any merit to using K&N air filter?

Congrats! I loved my 98, which I owned for almost 10 years. Trouble free and very enjoyable. The bronze tint is what I am also missing Rear locker was a 'must have', that I"m missing a great deal too. For whatever reason it was also quiter and more comfortable.

Maint. by-the-book needed? Never did so with all my FJ-60s. Timing belt was done at 90K.
Really was challenging to find a clean LX470 w/ high miles. many I saw were abused. Key for me was the Lexus Service Rep. saying "just do it" when he looked it over.
What's your recommendation on octane choice?

for no other reason then trying to pay less I almost always used 87 on my LX 98'. I could not feel much difference, all I could detect was a slightly higher gas consumption, and somewhat louder engine noise. With the 91 you somehow 'feel' the engine working slighly smoother. But the difference was really - microscopic. I did start to use the 91 recently on all my cars, probably has something to do with the higher gas prices, go figure
