You can find a steering wheel for your vehicle in any model year 98-02. The vehicles used the same wheel. I would make sure you reuse your current airbag as I am not sure if they made the transfer from a single stage to a dual stage airbag in that period. The swap is fairly easy. Just make sure you disconect the battery and let the vehicle stand for at least 30 minutes. This is so the airbag does not deploy while you are swaping the wheel. I have seen a couple of wheels around. They are difficult to find, but definitely worth the upgrade. Especially if you are starting to accumulate a lot of miles. Sooner or later the leather wheel will give out in high wear areas.

Okay guys thanks for the quick responses. Everyone has been establishing that the steering wheel will fit for any 98-02 LX or Land Cruiser, but I have called all the places online that I have seen which sell an 02 land cruiser wheel and they are insistingly telling me that it wont fit my LX.
i.e.http://www.autoaccessorystore.com/ho...izard=&s=&mid=
I really dont get why someone would not want to sell me a part, then again I dont want find myself with two steering wheels at once.
BTW thanks for the tip about the airbag, is that the only thing we have to do for disconnecting the airbag, unplugging the battery??
Anyways I also found this other site but then again they only offer it for the Land Cruiser 02-04, which I dont get because why if its the same wheel as the LX would they not offer it.

I also found this on ebay for a 98-02 land cruiser but it says SPORT conversion which I dont have the slightest idea if it changes the size of the wheel or makes it not compatible with the LX.

I am not certain why they are telling you that a landcruiser wheel will not work. It is the same wheel as the LX. The models after 02 have a different wheel though. I have seen that sport wheel on ebay and it looks like a standard wheel frame with custom work on the leather and wood. I would send the guy a message and ask him to be sure. That guy also has the standard wheel in his ebay store. Or at least he did.

As of neither convenient, nor comfortable I will definitely have to disagree on both of those. I just installed the new wheel and it feels like a new car, I have a 02 SC, 06 RX, 08 GS430, and my old truck the 99 LX, all of my other cars have the wooden steering wheel and every time I went to drive the LX it felt like a downgrade.
With the new steering wheel I feel like I am in another car it gave it a classy look, the wood color match perfectly with the interior wood and not only that but the sporty leather pattern is actually much more comfortable and easier to hold on than any other lexus wheel that i have. I have had numerous people trying it everytime I show them and they agree on the awesome new grip that it has.
This is really the best upgrade (except on my wallet $469) that I have done to this vehicle.
I am posting first a picture of the 2000 LX470 which came with the wood option, if you look at the wheel it does not have the same nice sporty pattern. I am really happy with my mod and the installation was a breeze I didnt know changing steering wheels was a matter of taking a few nuts and bolts out. (obviously with the battery disconnected)
Here come the pictures: First the 2000 LX470 with wooden steering wheel

From this one on they are all my mod.
