I looked at getting a disk from the dealer, but it was almost three hundred dollars which did not make any sense to me. Would be nice though, they probably improved coverage. Don't know if there are any other improvements with this version.

I too wanted to purchase the new 8.1 but at $300 I said never mind but would like to know what kind of improvements were made.

I recently updated my 2004 LX470 Nav DVD with a new DVD I ordered from the dealer. The update occurred without a hitch, and now I can find my house on the Nav unit.

Asside from that did the quality of the image of the screen improve? on my 2006 the image looks pixelated but I have seen the new lX570 and the picture is so much better so I wonder if it's the software or the screen?

You wish! The 570 has the Gen5 navigation unit - all new software/hardware, larger screen, much better resolution etc etc. No, this is not a matter of simple software upgrade.
